On Wednesday evening I headed down to the stunning The Roof Gardens in Kensington with one of my oldest friends Nat for the WatchPro Hot 100 party, celebrating the individuals and teams that have made outstanding contributions to their businesses and the British watch industry over the past 12 months.

The location could not have been more beautiful, or perfect for the occasion, situated 100ft above Kensington Highstreet, it’s like a little slice of Spain in the middle of central London, especially on a warm summers day like this. Filled to the brim with colourful flowers and Mediterranean trees, we relaxed on outdoor sofas sipping prosecco and red wine, whilst Spanish guitar played in the background, and completely forgot we were above all the hustle & bustle of London just down on the street below. We could have stayed there all night!

Swarovski were the principal partner of the night and had a wonderful display of their latest Autumn Winter collection of watches, draped from branches and enclosed in birdcages like rare birds, adding their signature sparkle to the whole room. I like my watches quite chunky and statement, so I was immediately drawn to the bold bracelet watches and ones with heavy leather straps, like their classic Octea range. Mondaine were also showcasing their ‘Helvetica 1’ smart watch, keeping it luxe & eschewing the temptation to make it look like a gadget, this looks like a regular watch but cleverly collects data through hidden technology in the case and transmits it back via smartphone. I love tech, and classic design so the all black version was obviously calling my name.

We had such a fun evening, and we genuinely didn’t want to have to go to get our rides home, especially as they started playing classic Whitney just as we were leaving and we couldn’t resist one last dance! I’ll leave you with a GIF, because all good parties should have a photobooth & when they do it’s guaranteed we’ll spend almost all night in there!

Last Friday was Next‘s #ShoeboxJukebox party, I’d been excited about this since the first mention of it last month – I mean shoes & party, what’s not to love? It’s become a little bit of a tradition for me & Tara to arrange to meet earlier in the day when we have events, so we can have a bit of a girls day & a catch up, and make the most of both of us travelling down. We had an afternoon of sample sales, shopping & a far too brief coffee with the lovely Katy before heading down to the party. On the way we were both so hungry that we had to stop to get something warm & filling for dinner, so we popped into Byron Burger & had a quick mac’n’cheese & nachos to share before rushing over. Always late & usually the last to leave!

I say this every time, but Next really do the best events & this one was one of their best yet, though the Press Office Takeover is still up there as one of my favourites too! As soon as we walked in we immediately started cooing over all the pretty shoes, the pointed laced up pair were my favourites & we were also greeted with the main attraction, the Shoebox Jukebox! The idea was to Instagram your favourite pairs of shoes, which were switched up all throughout the night & the jukebox would play a song inspired by them, plus every 30 minutes a person at random would win the pair they Instagramed! The music was a perfect mix of new pop & 90s, which everyone seemed to enjoy & we all had a good dance whilst munching biscuits, mini burgers & cake pops and drinking a few too many cocktails.

There were so many things to get involved with other than the jukebox too, I love that they always have lots of fun things going on at their events. In one corner was a table packed with crafty bits to customise a pair of sneakers for yourself, there were dancers who put on a performance for us, the always popular manicure table, and there was also mine & Tara’s favourite – Shoe box Higher or Lower, such a simple game but so much fun! Seven random shoe boxes were placed on the table & you had to guess if the next box was a higher or lower size than the last, if you got all 7 right you won a pair of shoes! You were only supposed to have one go, so we spent a good portion of our night watching & cheerleading everyone else playing!

The only downside to events like this is that they go by far too quickly. We saw so many friends that we haven’t seen in ages, but there was just not enough time to have a good catch up with everyone. I always feel guilty & a bit rude about that, but time just flies & before you know it you’re running for your train! Did you see my story on Twitter about my eventful journey home? I’d stayed too long at the party & as I got off the tube I realised I had minutes to spare before my train, so I crouched down & started unzipping my boots so I could make a run for it. As I was doing this, a random guy appeared asking if I’m late for my train, as I’m obviously looking pretty flustered, and tells me he’ll give me a piggy back! To my drunk brain, this seemed like a great idea, so I jumped on his back & he ran with me all the way to my platform, whilst in the background a busker was playing Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ on an electric guitar! Luckily I got to the platform on time, only to find my train was delayed anyway, typical. Thanks mystery hero stranger! Big thanks to the awesome girls & guys at Next for having us & for putting on such a fun night too!

Last weekend Highcross held their first Spring Beauty Fix event, being a bit of a beauty junky I headed over to check it out & make the most of the discounts and offers on throughout the centre.

One of my favourite things happening over the 2 days was the Beauty Amnesty, where shoppers were encouraged to bring in 5 items of makeup they no longer used or wanted & drop them in that big pink bin in exchange for a £10 gift card. I used to have a whole drawer full of makeup that had been used once or twice & then discarded, and though now I tend to have a monthly clear out & let friends and family have what they like, I still have a huge amount that’s unwanted just sitting there & I think almost every girl I know has this same makeup graveyard drawer somewhere! I thought this was such a brilliant idea, you get to de-clutter, the items all get recycled & you get £10 for it too – which if you’re anything like me probably went on more makeup! I really hope they’ll be doing this again. There was also a stylist & colour consultant on hand all day to advise how to find your ideal palette and apply this to both your wardrobe and make up, which proved very popular.

I then spent the next few hours going around to each of the stores & counters that were taking part. I chatted with the nail technicians at Nails Inc about my flimsy nails & checked out treatments and the new colours and finishes, Urban Decay gave me a intro on all their new launches, I got a 7 day sample of YSL‘s Le Teint Touche Éclat & the new Fusion Foundation to try out and I had a skincare update & mini facial from Clarins, plus of course took advantage of their offers too being one of my favourite skincare brands.

Afterwards I went over to Rituals who were offering skin care consultations & samples. I’ve never been into this store before, and I now honestly have no idea why not! I’m not much of a browser when shopping, I tend to know where I need to go & be pretty focused on those places, so I’ve always just walked past. As soon as you walk in it’s instantly relaxing, the store layout is beautiful with dark wood & draped fabric walls, and it smells like a spa. I also had no idea they sold makeup or things like teas, I sampled a little of the Jasmine Green Tea which was so light & fresh, I’ll definitely be going back for a box. The store assistants were lovely & super helpful talking me through their ranges, and was given a de-stress head, shoulder & hand massage using some of their signature products plus a little goodie bag of samples to try before heading home. I have to admit it must have worked as I pretty much curled up on the sofa & fell asleep as soon as I got in!

It’s not often that we have blogger events going on in the East Midlands, or Leicester at all really, so when Annie emailed me with an invite to a blogger party she was arranging right here in the city centre, I knew I couldn’t miss it. I was most excited to finally meet some local bloggers, I spend so much time down in London for events & have made wonderful friends from all over the country thanks to blogging, but I’ve always thought it was a shame I didn’t really know any bloggers a bit closer to home, I knew there must be some around here somewhere!

I headed down to Peter Pizzeria‘s newly opened Leicester branch with high expectations after talking to a few of the girls on Twitter & hearing how great their original Loughborough restaurant is, and I was not disappointed! I loved the quirky decor & layout as soon as I walked in, everywhere I looked I wanted to take a photo! I also had a little squeal when on my way up to our table I saw the big games room filled with ping-pong tables, table football, comfy sofas & classic board games. The whole place has such a relaxed & cosy vibe, it’s not just somewhere to eat, it’s somewhere to hang out too.

I didn’t really know anyone who was going & I’m quite a shy person, so this always makes me a little nervous but everyone was lovely, as I knew they would be! We quickly realised we had plenty in common to talk about & we all agreed how nice it was to finally meet other bloggers from this area too. Annie had invited a handful of Leicestershire companies also, and had given us a bit of a seating plan with reps from each company sat between groups of bloggers so we could all get to know each other. It was a great idea, as I know personally I’m quite bad at approaching people to start conversations, so this got us all talking quite naturally & I’m sure everyone made some new friends.

As we all sat down boards full of antipasti came out, plus homemade lemonade & melanade (apple, ginger & mint – delicious!) for drinks. I could only eat the bruschetta & salad, being vegetarian, but everyone else assured me the meats were amazing too & I was a little jealous! We all soon got stuck in & started chatting away as we shared the boards around. I love pizza, all types of pizza, so after being told they strive to make theirs as authentic as possible, with ingredients sourced from Italy & cooked in a traditional wood oven, I was excited to try them out. They were even better than I imagined, their sourdough bases are seriously to die for, and the toppings are a great mixture of classic & gourmet – the tomato, parmesan & sliced black truffle one went down very well. The highlight for me though was the Nutella pizza we had for dessert, I’ve never has a dessert pizza before & I was a little unsure at first, but it was amazing! Gooey & warm, topped with a dusting of sugar & crushed hazelnuts, I’m craving it again now just thinking about it! All the prices were super reasonable too, ranging from £6-11 for a good sized medium pizza.

Huge thanks to Peter for having us, and to Annie for organising, I really hope this is something we can make a regular thing as it was such a nice evening & a real success!

As I mentioned in last weeks post about Fred’s Shoes, me & Tara had a little trip down to London last month for a few press days including PLFM. Though we were mainly there for Fred’s, we obviously couldn’t leave without checking out all of the other great brands on display & these are a few of my favourites, including some new ones I was super excited to be introduced to.

One of the brands that really caught my eye was Havva, with their pointy toes, block heels, buckles & studs all in a subdued palette of blacks, deep reds & blues, it seemed like my kind of brand & I was so glad to have found out about them. Head designer Havva Mustafa launched the brand in 2009, following in her fathers footsteps and drawing on generations of family knowledge & experience, this is a brand that perfectly marries a long heritage with modern, yet classic designs. The quality & craftsmanship is second to none, as you would expect & they are made from the most beautiful selection of leathers. It’d be hard to pick a favourite, but I think it might be the black pointed ponyhair heels for me. I couldn’t stop picking them up, they’re such a great shape!

I was very surprised by the Camper shoes on display, this is a brand I’ve long associated with school shoes and not in a good way, but it seems completely unbeknownst to me they’ve had quite a dramatic overhaul. I really loved these ankle boots with angular, silicone wedge heels as an everyday casual kind of shoe, such a nice little detail and they were very well made & looked so comfortable too. Of course when I got home I immediately went on their website to see what else I was missing, and fell in love with the Anouk shoe boots & Mil work boots too. I’ll definitely be keeping a closer eye on them in the future.

I also fell in love with C Doux‘s selection of ankle boots, the brown snake textured ones in particular. I am literally praying that they will be available in black too! Senso‘s shoes always have me swooning, and their latest offerings were no different, there were so many perfect pairs of ankle boots that I didn’t know which ones to look at first! A + EM London was another brand that was new to me, and one I was happy to have discovered. All of their pairs ooze that kind of effortless style, the type of shoes that you can wear with the plainest outfit & they’ll instantly give it a nice laid back, cool edge.
