FAIIINT UncommonGoods lounging around in bed with Sole Sox anatomy socks, The Rise & Fall Sleeping Fox Pillow, Kobo plant the packaging siam poppy candle, Totoro plush & books.FAIIINT UncommonGoods Sole Sox anatomy socks, bones, muscles, Kobo plant the packaging Siam Poppy soy candle

After our one day of sunshine this week it’s back to miserable weather again! Luckily I have nowhere to be today, so I’m spending the day lounging around, curled up indoors with Nico, our cuddly little friends and a few good books. I’m hoping to finally catch up on some blog reading too.

UncommonGoods kindly sent over a few things a couple of weeks ago that are just made for lazy days like this. Nico has fallen in love with the adorable sleeping fox pillow & he’s pretty much decided it’s his pillow now, how could I take it off him when they both look so cute in their identical sleeping positions though? My personal favourite thing is definitely the candle, not only does it smell wonderful, but the real treat is that the packaging is infused with seeds! Once you’ve finished with the box, soak it with water, bury it beneath a layer of soil & a few weeks later a patch of poppies will grow! I love the idea behind this type of recycling, it’s such a unique and brilliant concept, turning waste into something beautiful. Though they mostly sell homewear & quirky gifts, they also have a small selection of accessories like these awesome anatomy socks (how could I resist?!) & I have my eye on some of their beautiful rings & other jewelry too.

Based in Brooklyn, UncommonGoods strive to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. A dollar from every purchase is donated to the charity of your choice & they also own a variety of non-profit organizations helping to deal with issues from sexual violence to protecting & restoring forests worldwide, which are supported through this initiative, so you get to feel good about giving a little back whilst you shop.

If you’re looking for unique gifts for friends & family I couldn’t recommend them more. There are so many quirky items that would make for really unique presents, whether you need a gift for a special couple for weddings or anniversaries, personalised things for little ones for friends expecting babies, or just a little treat for yourself.

Whats In My Bag?

Fashion blogger Stephanie of FAIIINT what's in my Balenciaga city bag. Makeup, flowerbomb perfume, iPad mini, iPod, iPhone 5, Leather gloves, Next cat ear hat, ASOS Cat eye sunglesses, MAC Makeup brushes, Pieces leather pouch.

(not shown : 100’s of old receipts, bus tickets, train tickets & random sweets!)

I always enjoy when other people do these ‘what’s in my bag’ type posts, and I know a lot of you do too, I guess it must appeal to our curious nature! I think getting a glimpse into something which is usually quite private can tell you a lot about a person. I thought it’d be fun to do one myself, seeing as the weather has been too awful lately to go outside & shoot the usual Friday outfit.

My bag has recently become a bit of a haven for Apple products, my iPhone is permanently with me wherever I am (I actually feel lost with out it, as pathetic as that sounds!) & I recently got a new iPad mini from Argos too, which has now joined it. I’ve so been enjoying the larger screen of the iPad & the space it saves instead of carrying a book everywhere with me is a huge plus too, but I’m still trying to get used to using it as much as I should at home. The one thing I really can’t live without though, esepcially as I’m always on public transport, is music. I know I can use both of those things for this, and yes I pay for a Spotify account also, but I still love my ancient iPod! I’ve had this one since 2005, it’s scratched to pieces, dirty & going a little yellow, but it still works perfectly & is full of my favourite albums, and what more could you want?

I never leave home without my makeup bag, I have to admit there is a lot more makeup inside there which you can’t see, and I lug the whole lot around with me every single day. I hate to be caught out without something I might need, and it’s become a bit of a running joke amongst my girl friends that I carry virtually every makeup product ever with me! They’re always thankful when they need to borrow some powder or concealer though! I also like to have some perfume too, I usually alternate between Flowerbomb & Carolina Herrera’s 212 Sexy, both very sweet, and I think it surprises people that I smell of roses, cotton candy & vanilla!

Even though it’s winter I still carry my sunglasses with me, as my eyes are pretty sensitive to the wind & when you wear as much eyeliner as I do the last thing you want is them watering and smudging it everywhere! It’s freezing now so the gloves are also always in there, along with my new favourite hat, how cute are those ears?! The cute factor is quite subtle with it, which I like, and it makes me feel kind of like catwoman when I’m wearing it too!

FAIIINT lazy day outfit wearing OnePiece Lillehammer printed grey & white onesie jumpsuit with Nico Siberian Husky puppy dog.FAIIINT lazy outfit OnePiece onesie, favourite movies

You may have seen my moaning tweets about feeling a little ill yesterday, stuffed up sinuses, migraines & the fact the weather has been miserable & rainy means I’ve spent the last few days feeling sorry for myself at home & so I have no proper outfit to show you today. I thought I’d do something a little different, and I know you guys love Nico, so any excuse to include him – I think he’s trying to do his best ‘blue steel’ face here for you all!

I’d like to pretend that when I’m slobbing around the house it’s in black leggings, jersey dresses & drapey knits (that’s my working from home outfit) but the truth is when I’m feeling rough, or having a day off there is nothing better than cuddling up in a onesie… I actually have a few of them, and this seems to surprise people when I tell them for some reason! I guess they think everything I own is black, even my PJ’s, but the truth is they’re Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Hello Kitty ones, I’m all about comfort when it comes to house wear & I like to give in to my dorky side with it too!

I couldn’t resist the traditional print on this one, it makes me feel like I’m at some snowy lodge, about to layer my ski suit over the top to go out & hit the slopes. The fact it’s thicker than the others I own & is fleece lined means it’s ridiculously warm & snuggly too. It couldn’t have arrived at a better time either, I’m booked in for an enzyme facial peel tomorrow morning, so I’ll be spending a long weekend hiding my face whilst it heals, cuddled up on the sofa with Nico, reading & working my way through a stack of my favourite movies. I’m hoping it will help get my skin back on track, but I honestly don’t know what to expect, so if any of you have experience with them do let me know, I’m a little scared!

Also, if you have any movie recommendations to add to that pile, feel free to leave them in the comments!

Birthdays & lately

FAIIINT instagram collage, my week, lately, recently, siberian husky, shooting star, meteor, dvds, movies, black cat, norwegian forest cat, sunset, birthday, cupcake

Today is my 25th birthday, a quarter of a century old, and I think you could say I’m having a bit of a quarter life crisis! In my mind when I was younger, 25 seemed so old. I imagined that by now I’d be married, have a stable income, have settled into a career, have my own house & have become a proper grown up. I can’t say I have even one of those things right now, but in a way I’m glad, I don’t feel I’m ready for them yet & I don’t want to settle down either, I feel like I’m just getting started & still have so much more exploring & figuring out to do before all of that. I have plenty of years ahead of me to be a proper grown up, so I intend to be selfish, immature, reckless & have a little fun for at least a couple more yet!

I’m working someway towards the career at the moment, though I think the stable income, house & other things will be a while off yet. But they can wait, I’d rather take the leap of faith & follow my heart now, whilst I still can, than get a ‘normal’ job that pays well & always wonder what if. It’s terrifying & exciting me all at the same time. I’m being quite secretive about it all at the moment, as I don’t want to shout about it prematurely, before everything is in place & sorted, but I’m hoping all will be able to be revealed soon! I’m excited to share it with you guys!

I recently did an interview with the lovely Jantine over at Bleaq on my 6 favourite artists & designers too – check it out here. If you love dark art, then you really should pay Bleaq a visit, Jantine always finds the most beautiful works & I never fail to leave inspired. Just a warning though, you may lose yourself there for quite a few hours!

FAIIINT new in, current favourite things ASOS cateye sunglasses, Belle's Bejewelled perspex geometric diamond necklace, Evolution in action by Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu & Patrick Gries, The better angles of our nature by Steven PinkerFAIIINT new in, current favourite things Belle's Bejewelled perspex geometric diamond necklace, Evolution in action by Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu & Patrick Gries, The better angles of our nature by Steven PinkerFAIIINT new in, current favourite things Evolution in action by Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu & Patrick Gries

Ollie has had a lot going on recently & we are unable to shoot any outfits until next week, so I’m afraid you’re going to have to put up with my attempts at photographing a few of my current favourite things instead. To be honest, I’m actually quite pleased with how these turned out, maybe I’m not as terrible at it as I thought…

These sunglasses from ASOS have been firmly at the top of my wishlist since I saw them a few months ago, I fell in love with the super sharp cateye shape & the thick, glossy frames. Unsurprisingly, they sold out pretty quickly & I have been stalking ASOS since, hoping for a pair to come back in stock. A lone pair appeared on Monday, so of course I snapped them up immediately. I’m so glad I did, the plastic is thick & weighty and they look much more expensive than the £12 they cost. Definitely my new favourites. I’ve also fallen in love with this geometric diamond necklace from Belle’s Bejewelled. Ollie thinks it looks like an artifact from Tomb Raider, and I kinda have to agree. Are you noticing a theme around here? I’m a little obsessed with wearable objects that remind me of my favourite movies, video games & books.

I know books aren’t really fashion but I enjoyed these two so much I just had to feature them. ‘Evolution in Action‘ is one of the most beautiful looking books I’ve come across in a long time. Patrick Gries‘ black & white photos of the bones & skeletons of all manner of species are breathtaking & beautifully illustrate the key themes in the text, which is completely engrossing & full of interesting facts. I could not put this down once I started. Evolution, and anatomy especially, have always been subjects that have fascinated & inspired me, and I know this is a book I’ll be picking up again & again.

The Better Angels of Our Nature‘ by Steven Pinker is another book I’ve been finding really hard to put down. Do you ever find yourself enjoying a book so much, that as you get closer & closer to the end you start reading just a few pages at a time, because you really don’t want to finish it? Well, that’s what I’ve been doing with this one. If you’re the type of person that thinks the world is going to shit, and that humankind is racing towards exterminating itself with it’s seemingly endless inhumanity, I highly suggest giving this a read. It charts the dramatic decline in violence over the course of history & proves without a doubt that we are currently living in the most peaceful time in human history. Shocking right? Especially when all the awful news stories would have you believe we are at our worst. It’s totally changed the way I see the world, for the better, and is a truly fascinating, mind altering read.

PS: Would you guys like to see more non-fashion things around here? Like books, movies, beauty or more general lifestyle posts? Or do you prefer just fashion & outfits? I’ve been curious about this for a while…
