Sorry for this rather boring outfit, but it’s just far too cold to even think about going out in anything less! The best think about a big coat like this Topshop one is that no one can see all the ugly, mismatched layers I’ve piled on underneath to keep myself warm! When it’s this cold, all I care about it staying warm, I’m talking hoodies & sweaters that are so old (but so snuggly!) I only ever wear them around the house & thermal tights underneath my leggings. All anyone else sees is this smart black coat though, it’s the perfect disguise!

I’ve never though of myself as much of a hat person, the only style that really suit me are beanies but even then I don’t wear them unless I need to. I originally got this pom pom one from Nelly for walking Nico in, but since the temperature has plummeted it’s barely left my head & I’m finding myself growing quite attached to it. I think it’s that little tuft of fur on the top, it just makes me smile & reminds me of the ones I used to have as a kid.

Glimmer / OUTFIT

I’m not sure what it is with me lately, but it seems that the golden biker jacket I featured a little while ago has given me a taste for all things gold & sequined. It’s so unlike me, but over the past week or so I’ve found myself drawn to everything shiny. First this metallic knit, then gold foil nail polish & I even have a (non-black!) sequined tee on the way! That’s something I never thought I’d be saying, but of course I’ll be wearing them all with a good dose of black, lots of draping & my beaten up boots too!

It’s nice to surprise yourself sometimes & find that things you’d usually dismiss for not being very ‘you’ can actually slot quite effortlessly into your wardrobe with the right styling.

As soon as I saw this chunky knit from Boohoo it was love, the golden paint over the top gives it almost a chain-mail kind of look, and you all know how much I love anything with a bit of a ‘warrior’ feel, so of course I had to have it. It’s super soft & slouchy too, perfect worn a little oversized & belted or tucked in. I love that the gold is just painted on so imperfectly, bits of black knit showing through & patches where it’s rubbing off, it gives it a grungier feel which is I think why I find it so wearable. I must admit though, I am a little scared to wash it, I’m not sure how well the finish will hold up as it’s already leaving a fine layer of golden dust on anything it touches!

January Blues / COVET

I think January has to be my least favourite month of the year. Christmas, New Year & all of the festivities that go along with it are over, I’m always flat broke & the days are cold, dark & miserable. There is one tiny plus side to make up for all of that though, January sales! This year I’m trying to wait until final markdowns before I get anything, as I always end up kicking myself for being too eager & missing all the real steals.

Top of the list are these ‘Mojito’ heels created by architect Julian Hakes, so called because the single ribbon of leather that wraps around the foot resembles a twist of lime skin. Despite having no foot plate they offer all the support needed & this quirky detail paired with the flowing, organic lines & elegant wrapped shape make for such a unique looking pair. I so want to get my hands on some to try on & test out!

Another favourite is the draped laser cut dress by 2nd Day, I’ll always be a sucker for anything laser cut or draped & this dress has both of those in one! I’m also very tempted by the wrapped skirt from T by Alexander Wang & the cropped tux by Twenty8Twelve, both such staple pieces in my wardrobe & something I can never buy enough versions of, they’re currently at 50% off too & proving to be pretty hard to resist!

Stardust / OUTFIT

One of my favourite things I got for Christmas was this sequined biker jacket that Mary Jane Fashion sent me all prettily wrapped up with a pink bow & a little Christmas message. I’m obsessed with nice packaging, so this little extra touch made it all the more special.

I admit, it’s not usually something I’d choose (with it not being black!) but as soon as I tried it on I was in love! The sequins are a lovely muted gold with a little black underlay showing through, and the biker style with the contrast black lapels & chunky zip give it more of a grungy feel, which means despite it being sequined I feel like I can just throw it on, even with more casual outfits. Here I kept it very simple, no jewellery & minimal black layers to keep it from looking fussy or over the top.

I’ve just brought my 3rd one of these draped cardigans from Mango, they’re such a great basic layering piece with their long asymmetric front & cropped back, the only downside is that they don’t last very long at all before they look a bit tatty which is such a shame! When I saw it in the sale on ASOS I knew I had to get a 3rd backup just incase I couldn’t find them again once my current one is knackered! Does anyone else buy ‘backups’ of their favourite pieces? It can’t just be me, surely?!

Trompe L’Oeil / OUTFIT

I wore this a few days ago to go shopping & we had intended to take outfit photos whilst we were there, however it received way more stares than I expected & so I chickened out & we went to the park to do the photos instead! I couldn’t care less about the people staring & whispering as I walked around, but the thought of getting the huge camera out & standing there whilst people openly gawked at me freaked me out a little!

I was so happy that I managed to bag both of the pieces I wanted from the Margiela x H&M collection, this body suit & the nude perspex wedges. The bodysuit is perfect, really snug fitting, matches my skin tone almost too perfectly & the foamy bra cups mean I don’t have to wear a bra, keeping the lines really clean & sleek. The wedges were beautiful & I was surprised by how high quality they were too, however, I couldn’t even get my foot into them, they felt around 2 sizes too small! I’ve tried a few times to squeeze my feet into them now, desperately hoping they’ll suddenly, magically fit, they didn’t though, so now they’re all parceled up ready to be returned. I’m really sad to see them go!

Lights + StylistPick ’7 Day Challenge’ Video / OUTFIT

I love how pretty all the lights look in Town Hall Square here, it definitely makes the fact it’s dark by around 4pm that little bit more bearable. This was one of the last days of the challenge & I’m pretty casual here as my aim was to get some early Christmas shopping done. It was a total fail though, I never came home with a single present, unless you include ones for myself…

I’ve professed my love for this Barneys Originals jacket enough times now, same for my fluffy snoods, but I am really annoyed with myself for not taking a better close-up shot of the leggings. I wear them quite often, so I was surprised I hadn’t featured them in an outfit post yet. I’ve always been a sucker for sheer paneling, but I just love the way they add a little bit of extra interest to an otherwise quite plain outfit.

I also thought I’d show you guys the finished StylistPick video of the whole 7 day challenge. There are a few outfits I haven’t put full outfit posts from up yet, I haven’t decided if I’m going to post them or if it’s a little overkill? Let me know if you’d like to see them or not!

I have to say I found this a lot easier than I expected, though I did get an awful lot of funny looks when I was doing the ones around the city, see if you can spot any of them! The hardest part of it was watching it back, is it just me or does anyone else find watching / hearing themselves to be particularly cringey? I mean, do I really sound like that?! I’m sure it’s not as bad as I think though, but please excuse my constant ‘Ummms’ & my worst habit, forgetting what I’m saying half way through talking! Keep an eye out for a little Nico cameo too!

Wrapped Up / OUTFIT

All of a sudden it’s turned bitterly cold, looking back at these photos taken only a few days ago it’s hard to believe I felt so warm & snug in this few layers, especially when today even the thought of venturing out in anything less than a duvet is unbearable! I do love autumn & winter, but days like today when it’s been chucking it down all morning & so ridiculously windy too, make me want to just curl up inside with Nico, my big fluffy robe & lots of warm comfort food!

This AllSaints cardigan is one of my favourite pieces to wear when it’s chilly though, there’s nothing better than physically being able to wrap yourself up, it’s like a huge fluffy hug when it’s miserable outside. I love that there are so many options for wearing it too, it’s basically a long rectangle with sleeves, so you can wrap it & drape it around yourself however you like. I’m still finding new ways to wear it even now!

Eksempel is another brand I discovered thanks to ASOS. I’d never heard of it before, but saw this dress (heavily discounted!) in the sale & although it’s just a basic tank dress, the fabric really drew me to it & I ended up getting it. It’s another one of those pieces that’s quickly become a staple in my wardrobe, with lots of people complimenting it or having to have a feel of it! I love the way the leathery jersey transforms it from a boring black tank dress into something just that little bit more special.

Show Me Your Bones / OUTFIT

This is the second outfit from my ’7 Days With StylistPick‘ challenge. We spent the day doing a little shopping & I also thought it’d be the perfect way to really put the boots to the test in terms of comfort. I’m happy to report that after a few hours of shopping they were still super comfortable, I think this is mostly down to the chunky shape, thick platform & nice wide fit. I’m used to walking around in heels all day, but it’s rare to find a pair of this height that are still comfortable after almost a whole day of walking, so I’m really quite impressed!

A day of shopping calls for a simple outfit that’s easy to keep getting changed out of when trying things on, so I went for a really basic look – tee & a skirt, plus my trusty snood for a little extra warmth.

This ribcage tee from AY Not Dead is one of my favourites & it adds a nice bit of interest to what would otherwise be quite a plain outfit. I’d never heard of the brand before but came across it in the ASOS sale last year, you all know how much I love anything anatomy related, so of course I had to have it! I just love the messy, painterly print & I can never get enough of charcoal grey tees. I haven’t seen the brand on ASOS since though, which is a real shame as looking through their current lookbook there are loads of pieces I’d buy in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anywhere to buy online though! If you happen to know of somewhere, please let me know!
