I know I’ve been whinging about how rubbish the sales have been this year, but after paying ASOS a visit last week I actually ended up getting quite a little haul of things, this Gestuz dress being one of them. I’m a huge fan of the brand & couldn’t pass this up at 70% off, even though I was a little unsure of the tie-dye, marbled print to begin with. It was one of those pieces that as soon as I tried it on I didn’t want to take it off again, it’s super soft, drapes beautifully & the print is much subtler than I originally thought.

I’d been looking for a pair of casual, comfortable, go with anything wedges for the longest time. So, when I went along to the Finsk sample sale before Christmas & saw two perfect pairs, I couldn’t help myself from getting both. You’ve already seen the laced ones, but then I realised I haven’t shown this pair off yet! I love that they are basic enough to work with everything in my wardrobe, but they also have so many subtle little details that quietly make a real statement. The tiny notch in the back of the wedge & the double stud fastening are my favourite parts. Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference.

Autumn Leaves / OUTFIT

Its been a while since I’ve been shopping & had something catch my eye & just instantly knew I needed it in my life. This Topshop dress did just that though, the pleated texture, structured shape of the full skirt & perfectly fitting bodice, I pretty much ran to the changing rooms with it!

This happens to me quite often with shoes though… I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anymore that weren’t autumn appropriate this year, but then I came across these in the sale & I couldn’t resist them. I love the chunky, nude leather covered wedge, neutral colour blocking & the minimalistic look they have. The fact they’re not entirely black & were in the sale seemed like a good enough justification to buy them in my head, despite the fact I’m actually running out of space to keep anymore pairs. They’re now slowly taking over my window ledge & my desk, but I still keep buying them & can’t bring myself to part with the older pairs either. I really should get some listed on eBay, but I’m far too sentimental about them.

The jacket is another of the pieces from my degree that I’m trying to wear more. You may have seen it previously here with it’s removable faux-fur collar attached. I enjoyed seeing this go from paper to a real life garment, mostly because I learnt a lot in the process, there are so many things I would do differently if I were to make this again. Many of them seem obvious now, like adding a thicker interfacing to the lapels to help the leather hold a better shape & not attempting to do intricate patterns of stitching on a home machine that doesn’t like sewing leather! Sometimes these little imperfections make something all the more special though, I was pretty proud considering it was only my second attempt at a properly tailored jacket. I really have the urge to make another though, knowing what I do now & as a more polished & perfect version.

I seem to be collecting a lot of clothing & accessories that feel a bit superhero inspired recently. It’s no secret I’m a huge comic book nerd, so it’s no surprise that I’m just a little bit excited to see so many collections inspired by superheros this Autumn! This Oh My Love dress is my most recent addition. As soon as I saw the metallic gold foil & dipped back that feels a bit like a cape, I knew I needed to have it & I’ve been swooshing around in it since it arrived!

These Topshop boots are really old & I haven’t worn them for years now, but I just had to dig them out to really complete the whole super-heroine look! After rediscovering them I’m not really sure why they’ve been unworn for so long. I put them away one summer, knowing it would be too warm to wear them & it seems I just forgot about how beautiful they were. They are ridiculously comfortable & the leather is really thick, but buttery soft, giving them that perfect slouch when worn. I see them getting a lot more wear over the coming months to make up for the years in storage!

Candy Pop! / OUTFIT

Last Friday was the Ballad Of Candy Pop party for the launch of the latest issue ‘Baby K’, which I have a double page spread of illustrations in! Exciting! I’m just waiting for the post man to deliver my copy, so I shall give you all a look when it arrives! We had a wonderful night & got extremely spoilt with free drinks & goodie bags packed to the brim with awesome candy pop stuff! I only wish we could have stayed a little longer & that I’d had time to get my nails done!

The theme for the night was obviously ‘Candy Pop’, I hate to not make an effort & dressing up for themed parties is one of my most favourite things, so I didn’t want to go in my usual head to toe black. My wardrobe is distinctly lacking anything at all girly, so I decided to order this lilac dress from ASOS. Of course I had to add heaps of black to balance out the girly hue though! I’m surprised how much I like it actually, I think with it being denim & the seam detailing, it keeps it from being too girly & the lilac is beautifully faded & just the right side of being greyish that it’s almost a neutral. It’s a good addition to my tiny ‘not black’ side of the wardrobe!

I bet you’re wondering why I did a shoe photo of these almost falling to pieces boots, but they are possibly one of my favourite pairs & the pair I wear most often, so I felt it was only fair! I’ve had these for years, they are easily the most comfortable shoes I own & they are my go to shoe for gigs & festivals. When I heard the party was being held at The Old Blue Last, a notorious live music venue, I knew they were the only shoes that would do. The more battered they get, the more I love them, I think I will keep wearing them until they literally drop off my feet! I’ve already started scouring eBay in the hopes another pair will be listed, so that I can have a back up pair on standby!

I’m not sure if it was the free shots, or the fact we got talking to people, but before we knew it was time to get the train home & I totally forgot to take any photos of the night! I know, I’m a rubbish blogger! Below is a little instagram round up with a few from me & the rest from the Ballad Of facebook page so you can get a little feel for the night! I’m already looking forward to the next one & I promise I wont forget next time!
