After having just spent a small fortune on a sale haul from ASOS I really shouldn’t have spent any more, but when I saw this maxi dress I couldn’t help but make another order. You know when you see something & it is just so you, it could have been made for you? This was one of those pieces, I couldn’t say no to it. The asymmetric midi/maxi hem, the contrasting jersey/crepe panels that give it a little stiffness & that beautiful flared shape & the top half is a t-shirt too, total perfection.

My cropped leather jacket from my degree collection (are you sick of seeing this yet?!) was the perfect compliment to the long lengths, I love playing with proportions, especially when wearing maxi lengths. Everytime I wear this I remind myself I need buy some more leather & make a better (less rushed) version, but never get around to it. I’m hoping to get my machine fixed in the next few weeks though, as I plan on making some summery dresses & shirts, so hopefully I might get around to it then.

Also, on a side note, I overheard some chavvy kids call me ‘the angel of death’ whilst wearing this, I think because it billows out so much when I walk, and of course all of the black… I’m sure they meant it as an insult, but I definitely spent the rest of the day swooshing around with this in my mind!

A few weeks ago Ladbrokes got in touch asking me to take part in a blogger challenge to celebrate the Oscars and their new Diamond Slot game, the idea being to create an outfit from ASOS that you’d wear to The Oscars. I have to admit that at first I found this kind of strange, but I soon started daydreaming & wondering what would I wear if in some kind of alternate reality I actually were attending, so I accepted. I also thought it would be a perfect excuse to do a more evening kind of outfit, especially as you guys mostly only ever see what I wear casually, though arguably this isn’t much different!

I’m sure most of you guessed that I wouldn’t choose some huge couture-style gown & would have to dress it down a little. The fact is I just don’t do that kind of over the top glitz & glamour, I feel much more comfortable in something simpler, something I can rough up. Messy hair, smudgy eyes & clunky shoes are how I feel most me.

I decided to go with separates, as surprisingly there were hardly any suitable black dresses available. The bustier is my favourite part, even though I don’t usually like these corset style tops. The quilted texture & the deep cut out somehow manage to make it feel much fresher than the cliche kind you usually see & yeah, it makes you feel a little like Wonder Woman too, which is always a bonus! I’ve been wanting this maxi skirt for a while, so now seemed the perfect reason to finally get it, I just love the curved split & folding at the waist.

I had to throw a jacket on as well to stop me from getting too many stares wandering around our local park all dressed up & wearing so little in the freezing weather and I love that if I simply switched the bustier for a tee this is something I’d definitely wear casually too.

Dream Winter Wishlist / COVET

FAIIINT, Wishlist, Matches, Matches Fashion, Winter, Autumn, Roundup, 2012, Helmut Lang, Dress, Draped, Diane Von Furstenberg, Givenchy, Leather, Jacket, Biker, Calf Hair, Ponyskin, Cuff, Tabitha Simmons, Ankle Boot, Flat, Suede, Yves Saint Laurent, YSL, Madge, Boots, Wedge, Lanvin, Maxi, Skirt, Sportmax, Sweater, Metallic, MM6, Bracelet, Smythe, Herringbone, Coat, Military, Leggings, L Wren Scott, Joomi Lim, Rings, Gold, Shourouk, Necklace, Bib, Perspex, Swarovski, Black, Grey,

If I were to win the lottery tonight, this is what I’d be buying, every last bit. I spend way too much time making these fantasy wishlists, just incase I happen to become filthy rich overnight, but I also use them as a sort of marker when it comes to sale shopping. If something is on one of my seasonal lists & gets reduced massively, even if it’s still a bit of a splurge, I’ll allow myself to buy it. My reasoning is that I loved it enough to put it on the list, so I’m clearly not just buying it because I’m being suckered in by the 80% off tag, even though I know it’s something I’ll never actually wear!

Talking of sales, I’m getting obsessed with the ‘Style Steals‘ section on Matches, a permanent section of the site with pieces at upto 80% off. The Sportmax sweater is top of my list at the moment, I love the oily, beetle- like iridescence & the fact it’s half price makes it hard to pass up. The Lanvin skirt is the maxi of my dreams, but it’s still massively out of my price range despite the huge savings, I’m inspired to try & make a DIY version though, so keep an eye out for that!

I’m not usually a coat person, I prefer to stick to my trusty jackets & lots of layers, but this Smythe one is seriously tempting me & it’s not even black! It’s just so beautifully cut, the pointed hemline & sharp collar are perfect touches & I love the slight military vibe.

I’ve always said that if I had a nice chunk of money to splurge on something I’d by a Rick Owens leather jacket, but now I’m not so sure after seeing this Givenchy jacket! A traditional biker, but with a snug fit, super nipped in waist, buttery leather & calf hair sleeves, it’s total perfection!

What are you guys coveting this Winter?

I hate to do the stereotypical British thing & moan about the weather, but seriously, it’s June & I’m wearing a heavy maxi dress & a leather jacket & still feeling like I’d happily wrap up even more! I decided to use the opportunity to get a few more wears out of the draped leather jacket I made last year, I’m sure most of you have already seen the previous post about it & me professing my love for this ‘tester’ – here. I think it’ll be one of those things I keep & wear forever, despite it being my first attempt & knowing that it is far from perfect, I just love it regardless. I really do need to get making a few more for Autumn though, I still really want to do a nude version, but still haven’t found that perfect nude leather I’ve been searching for to use for it…

I’ve also fallen in love with orange again, I just love the way it looks paired with black, so I had to dig out this old ASOS bangle. I have a feeling it’ll be getting a lot more wear again soon, it adds such a nice pop of colour to my usual all black outfits. I’ve even been a little tempted by a bright orange maxi dress, anyone who knows me will know how unusual this is for me, but I really just can’t get enough of it, I wonder if because the weathers rubbish I’m subconsciously trying to make myself feel a bit more summery…

Also, if you missed it in the previous post, check out the little interview I did with Creative Fluff Magazine!

Brain Print Shirt / OUTFIT : MADE

FAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, GoldFAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, GoldFAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, Gold

This shirt bodysuit was from one of the last collections I did as part of my degree, I think it’s one of my favourite things that I made during my 3 years there, it’s quite simple, but I like that, as it lets the print do all the talking. For this same reason, I’ve paired it with just a plain maxi & minimal jewellery here.

I’m not usually much of a print person, but we had to use print for that particular project & typical of me, I had to pick something slightly dark & gory! I’ve altered the colours & it’s been slightly manipulated, but the print is actually an image of brain tissue under a microscope, I saw it & knew I had to use it, I thought it was so beautiful! I’m hoping to have some spare time soon to get some more fabrics printed & make a few more pieces with the same print, as I think it’d look great as a draped dress or pair of leggings & I really like the thought of it as a lining for a jacket too.

On a separate note, apologies for the lame hiding behind my hair pose, my skin is still totally ruined & this is the only angle it looks remotely decent from. I feel awkward enough in front of a camera when I look nice, let alone when I’m feeling a total mess, but I felt some outfit posts were so long overdue that I really should do some anyway, especially as my skin is showing no signs of healing just yet. For those wondering whats wrong with it, I switched to a different pressed powder, my skin had an awful reaction to it & came out in a rash & lots of spots. I then brought some spot treatment gel to fix it, my usual one wasn’t in stock & I wanted it sorting quickly so I brought a different brand, left it on overnight & woke up with burns, scabs & holes all over my face where it had been! It’s scared my skin quite badly & some of the holes were so deep that even now, about 2 weeks later, they are still raw! Fingers crossed it gets better soon…
