Last Thursday was the Next Press Office Take-Over, they invited a huge group of bloggers down to their offices in London to browse the spring collections & have our say over which pieces were our favourites.

I was super excited to find there was a whole rail of black & leather, with so many pieces I’d love to get my hands on & I even found myself falling totally in love with a printed maxi dress & a striped pair of jeans. Next have definitely been upping their game over the last few seasons & I urge you to go check out the new season pieces if you always assumed it was a store more to your Mums taste than your own, I think you’ll be surprised!

Unfortunately Ollie couldn’t come, and as I am totally hopeless with a camera I got no photos of the actual party. It was one of the best I’ve been to though, we danced to cheesy 90′s tunes, drank champagne & cocktails, browsed the rails & ate as many retro sweets as we could manage. I was having so much fun I didn’t want to leave & I’m still working my way through my leftover bag of flying saucers, fruit salads, sherberts, cola bottles, marshmallows & candy bracelets!

I met up with Tara & Kylie for something to eat before we headed over to the event, I had such a great time with these girls & I’m already looking forward to seeing them again soon! We got there a little early, so decided to go over to a quieter street & shoot our outfits. Shooting outfits with other bloggers is so much more fun than usual, they know exactly how it is, so it feels more relaxed & less awkward, being in a group seems to draw way less confused stares from passers by too! Huge thanks to Kylie for the lovely photos.

And if there’s one thing bloggers love, it’s a photobooth. I think we spent the majority of the night dressing up & taking silly snaps, so I shall leave you with a few of those & a couple of images courtesy of Next of the party…

I wore this a few days ago to go shopping & we had intended to take outfit photos whilst we were there, however it received way more stares than I expected & so I chickened out & we went to the park to do the photos instead! I couldn’t care less about the people staring & whispering as I walked around, but the thought of getting the huge camera out & standing there whilst people openly gawked at me freaked me out a little!

I was so happy that I managed to bag both of the pieces I wanted from the Margiela x H&M collection, this body suit & the nude perspex wedges. The bodysuit is perfect, really snug fitting, matches my skin tone almost too perfectly & the foamy bra cups mean I don’t have to wear a bra, keeping the lines really clean & sleek. The wedges were beautiful & I was surprised by how high quality they were too, however, I couldn’t even get my foot into them, they felt around 2 sizes too small! I’ve tried a few times to squeeze my feet into them now, desperately hoping they’ll suddenly, magically fit, they didn’t though, so now they’re all parceled up ready to be returned. I’m really sad to see them go!

William Tempest for River Island Sequin Shirt Dress / Moxham Anubis Necklace / Topshop Premium Boots

A few weeks ago I was invited down to SNAP Studios in London to take part in More Magazine’s ‘How Would You Wear…’ feature, in which 5 girls each have to style the same item with only pieces from their own wardrobes. This week the issue finally come out & so I thought I’d share it & a few behind the scenes images we took too.

Firstly, the item we were challenged to style was this beautiful William Tempest for River Island shirt dress, I didn’t want to take it off again! I’ve had my eye on this collaboration since I first heard about it, so it was great to get to see pieces from it in the flesh before it’s release. It’s much nicer quality than I expected, the sequins are very securely stitched on & the chiffon base is light, but with a nice weight too & nowhere near as see through as the photos make it look! I decided to keep it simple & let the dress really shine, as the 3 girls who had already been had made it quite casual & dressed down.

I was told before we got there that the editor liked ‘huge toothy smiles’ for the feature & this absolutely terrified me! I’m not much of a smiler & I hate smiling with teeth, so I was super nervous when it came to my turn. I shouldn’t have worried though, the team were really lovely & helped me feel much less awkward about it all, we had a good laugh about them having to force a huge smile out of me! I did feel a little bad for them, I tried so many times to just get away with ‘little smiles’ & it must have been like trying to squeeze blood from a stone getting this huge smile out of me! I always find it funny how people are surprised about how shy I am in front of a camera, I guess they expect that someone who takes photos of themselves in the middle of the street & then posts them on the internet would be super confident, but that’s not the case at all! I don’t think I’m the only one like this either?

I also had the chance to meet the lovely Robyn who was there too, shooting a jeans look for the issue before this one. It’s always so nice to get to meet other bloggers at things like this & it was great to have a good chat with her & hear that she also shared my nerves about putting on a huge smile for the camera!

The photo used is not one I’d personally pick of myself, but that’s purely because I’m not used to the big smile, I always feel I look a little creepy when I smile this huge & I joke that this is my ‘serial killer’ smile because of that! Either way though, I always think it’s important to do things outside of your comfort zone & I’m glad I went along as it turned out to be a really fun experience.

The wind seems to be following me around recently, every time we try to get some outfit shots the camera comes out & then suddenly out of nowhere it’s stupidly windy! It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have really watery eyes, in all of the photos apart from this one my face was a scrunched up, squinty mess!

I’ve had these Bebaroque leggings for quite a while now & they’re one of those things I always wonder why I don’t wear more often because they are really attention grabbing & great for adding a bit extra to my usual all black, then I wear them & remember why. I brought them in a medium & really ought to have gotten a small, they get so baggy after wearing them for a while, I kinda like them loose & how they bunch up around the knees, but constantly pulling them up is a major pain. I really need to take them in a little so they fit properly soon. I love the print on them though, the old school sailor tattoo design is pretty yet edgy & they have mermaids on too, what’s not to love about that? I originally wanted the tights version, the print was just down the front instead of all over & looked like actual full leg tattoos, but I never managed to get my hands on a pair before they sold out! I have a few other pairs of their tights & they are hands down my favourite hosiery brand, the designs are so unique, great quality & they’ve lasted a surprisingly long time too, which is rare for me & tights! I’m so looking forward to getting them out again with the return of the cold weather.

The latest addition to my growing Moxham collection is this ‘Egypt’ pendant, I’d wanted this for a while but couldn’t decide between the black or nude version, then this one went on sale over at BENGT & made my mind up for me! I love how all of the pieces are the perfect mixture of tough & delicate & they’re real statement pieces too. They’re fast becoming one of my favourite jewellery brands, I’ve already added a few more pieces to my Christmas wish list!

Incase you hadn’t already noticed from the layout, black & nude is one of my favourite colour combinations. Nude is usually the closest I get to wearing a colour that could be considered ‘girly’, though I think it has an edgyness to it also, especially when paired with black. I love wearing a nude tank top or dress that is almost too close of a match to your skin tone, add black accessories & I think it looks so striking & beautiful, plus it’s always fun to watch people in the distance gawk at you thinking you have nothing on!

I haven’t been able to stop staring at this Bracher Emden clutch since I received it last week, I think I’m in love. As I’ve mentioned many times before, I’m not much of a bag person, it’s usually shoes that make my heart go weak, but this is a different story. I think in part it’s is due to the strong Sci-Fi feel about it, I’m a huge nerd & love anything science fiction related, but mostly I’m a massive fan of HR Giger’s work & that was my first thought when I saw this clutch. It doesn’t help that I’ve recently watched Prometheus & the Alien quadrology (no, not including those awful Alien Vs. Predator movies!) a fair few times in the last month either! But then adding to that the beautiful construction & the fact it’s part of a collaboration with Jean-Pierre Braganza, one of my current favourite British designers (& I would guess also a huge Sci-Fi nerd!) & I was smitten!

And yes, I’m wearing my Moxham again! I couldn’t resist though, it is such a perfect match for this pleated maxi from Jovonnista, toughening it up & giving it that little bit of edginess that I always like to have when wearing anything overly feminine. I have way too many maxi dresses / skirts already, but I couldn’t say no to this one, the pleats, uneven hem & the ideal my-arm-almost-blends-into-it nude… Perfect!

We finally got a little peek of Summer this week, it was unbelievably hot & sticky, however a few days later & we are back to dull, dreary days. For the entire few days the sun shone, I was ill, stuck inside with a chest infection & pretty much as soon as it went back to behaving like September, I felt back to normal! Well, normal except for a puffy, swollen face, hence the sunglasses & moody expression! So, this is kinda my ‘I feel like death’ outfit, basic & most importantly super comfortable dress + a few statement pieces that always make me feel better when I’m wearing them. I’m not exactly a sun worshiper, as is probably extremely obvious from my pasty white tan, but there’s no denying that days are so much more enjoyable when the sun’s out, even if I am slathered in factor 50… I’m still clinging onto my tights though, I couldn’t face exposing others to my transparent legs until they’ve had at least a little bit of sun!

I’ve been wearing my Moxham Anubis necklace with almost everything recently, it’s become my new COS belt, one of those items you can’t stop wearing because you can just chuck it on over anything & instantly feel confident & put together. Absolutely every outfit seems to look better with it added, when I’m not wearing it I can’t help but feel like my outfit’s missing something, that finishing touch. I guess that’s a surefire sign I need to treat myself to some more & fast!

I’m a little like that with my Finsk shoes too, once I realized how comfortable they were I couldn’t stop at just one pair & now I have a whole shelf of them! The way they complete an outfit & can make even the most basic look quite statement with the addition of a pair is far too addictive. Plus, they make me smile & give me a bit of a spring in my step when I’m wearing them, exactly what I needed for a day like today!

I fell in love, hard, with Moxham’s jewellery when I first came across it a good few months ago & have been deciding ever since which piece to get first, I finally settled on the ‘Anubis’ necklace in black. It arrived beautifully packaged from BENGT, who I have to say, have amazing customer service, my email full of questions was answered within a few hours & despite stating delivery was around six days, it arrived in two. I am so impressed with the service & the quality of the necklace that I feel quite a few more purchases coming on, I already have my eye on the ‘Flax’ necklace & ‘Taba’ cuffs in both black & nude!

This is Dorris by the way, you’ll probably see quite a lot of her, she was my first ever mannequin & although she is not of much use now, due to her battered state, I think she’s doing quite well for a 60ish year old lady & makes a great display piece. I brought her from a retiring dressmaker around 8 years ago, she was also her first mannequin & she let me have her for a ridiculously cheap price on the condition that I promised to take good care of her & still call her Dorris! As I’ve said before, I have a habit of naming inanimate objects, so this made a lot of sense to me & she has been Dorris ever since!
