As part of this years resolutions I’ve been forcing myself to step outside of my sartorial comfort zone. So far I’ve discovered I have a bit of a soft spot for sequins, metallics are blacks best friend & I’ve even been tempted by that orange dress. Obviously, I’m not about to abandon black for good, but it’s nice to mix things up a little sometimes & try things you’d usually dismiss.

This mermaid green sequined tee from Lashes of London was one of those things, beautiful but not for me. That was until I saw how effortlessly Annette paired a similar sequined miniskirt with her mostly monochrome wardrobe, it worked so beautifully against all of the black & suddenly I found myself longing for mermaid sequins too. When it arrived I was pretty surprised by how easy it is to wear, the iridescent purpleish-green sequins make it, like other metallics, almost a neutral. I don’t feel like I’m wearing something bright green, it just feels like another dark layer, and that’s perfect for me.

I know this is also possibly the most cliché way to style sequins for day time, but why mess with a good thing? I just love the crinkly texture & dull sheen of my Belstaff against all the glitz too. It was a total impulse buy, but one I can’t imagine being without now, I can throw it on over anything & it instantly adds that perfect tough, laidback kind of edge, perfect for roughing up sequins!

Since high school I have been obsessed with Andy Warhol, I would even go as far as to call him my idol, so naturally I’ve been meaning to get my hands on some of the Pepe Jeans x Andy Warhol collaboration for a while now, though I could never find anywhere in the UK to buy it.

Whilst browsing through Zalando a few weeks ago I actually squealed in excitement when I saw they stocked the collection & couldn’t pass up the chance to own this tee! I love the simplicity of the ‘print’, which is actually embroidered on, it reminds me of his scribbled sketches & the quirky detailing such as the bright blue binding inside the neck & hem, raw edges & the baby soft fabric make it feel really special & I can easily imagine it’ll be something I wear to death!

These Finsk wedges are my latest favourite purchase, I brought them from their London sample sale just before Christmas & have been wearing them everywhere since. You all know by now that I’m kind of obsessed with the brand & have quite a collection of them, these are my first pair from their new sister line ‘Skin by Finsk’ though & I love that they’re a bit more understated & ‘everyday’ than the mainline. This is one of my favourite things about the brand, the way they combine style & functionality, they’re like little works of art but are also some of the comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned, even their monster wedges which look like a total nightmare to walk in, are comfortable enough to wear all day!

The jacket is one of my own, it’s not perfect, but it’s the most used of the pieces I made during my degree because it’s pretty much my dream jacket; cropped, buttery leather, draped, subtle anatomical detailing & super versatile. It’s been featured here quite a few times now & my favourite thing about it is that it looks totally different depending if it’s zipped up or not, you can see it done up here. I really need to get around to making a more ‘perfect’ version of it when I get chance…

Firstly, as I said yesterday, so sorry for being MIA over the past week. It’s been super hectic & I had no time to sit down & actually blog. I do love this time of year, but it always seems to be quite stressful & when everything starts piling up ontop of me too! I’ve not even begun Christmas shopping yet either, so don’t even get me started on how much I still have to do for that… Eeek!

On Friday we went along to the Hemyca Atelier Event, held in the futuristic looking RBS building in Bishopsgate. We were treated to Christmas carols, a mini-catwalk, raffle prizes from each brand & of course the usual cocktails & canapes. It was a lovely evening, with lots of beautiful pieces on offer & it was great to be introduced to some brands I’d never come across too.

I loved the sharp black tailoring & leathers from Hemyca, the shirt dress with heavily embellished placket was one of my favourite pieces & also the sheer white dress/coat, I wish I could be trusted to wear something so pristinely white, but I’m just far too messy! I totally fell in love with the snakeskin print boots from Marta Jonsson too, in the softest suede & with the gold accents they were perfect, I wish I’d had the cash on me at the time as I’d have brought them in a heartbeat! The raw, organic looking jewellery from Susan Peires also caught my eye, I especially loved the rune necklaces & hammered rings.

We also got to catch up with the lovely Jess & Amy from Bracher Emden. I’m sure you’ve all heard me professing my love for this brand many times before, but I’m just so smitten with their designs, I would happily sing their praises in every single post if I could! I have always been more of a shoe person, but these bags are individually handcrafted in beautiful leathers & are more like wearable art than just another accessory. They single-handedly managed to turn me into a bag person & I now want all of them, even the brightly coloured ones, I can see this becoming a bit of an addiction!

Grazia Local / LIFE

When Grazia magazine got in touch & asked me if I’d like to be the Grazia Local Ambassador for Leicester, I pretty much bit their hand off! I love my little city & it was so nice to be able to tell the girls at Grazia about all of the amazing places we have here & work alongside them compiling the feature. I even have a little column!

The idea of the regional specials are to give readers the inside scoop on the best places to go, things to do & best kept secrets from local ‘girls about town’. This time the special is focusing on the Midlands including Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham, Birmingham & Warwick, and if you live in one of these areas you can get this weeks copy (out today!) for just £1!

There are also a host of special offers & discounts from the places mentioned in the top 10 for each city, my favourites for Leicester being 15% off your bar bill at Maiyango, which makes the best & most inventive cocktails in the city, 20% off at both Pink Pigeon & Dolly Mix Vintage, plus coffee & a cake for £3.50 at The Exchange!

I really enjoyed helping to put this feature together, and I’m looking forward to working on more pieces in the future too. There’s just something extra special about seeing your work (& face!) in print that makes it feel even more rewarding. I’ve also done a ‘day in the life’ type diary post for Grazia Daily to go along with this, so I’ll be posting that too once it’s live!

Boohoo Boutique / COVET

Boohoo Boutique, Dresses, Collection, Black, Gold, Dress, Jacket, Studded, Sequin, LookbookBoohoo Boutique, Dresses, Collection, Black, Gold, Dress, Jacket, Studded, Sequin, Floral, Print, Lace, LookbookBoohoo Boutique, Dresses, Collection, Black, Gold, Dress, Grey, Blue, Lace, Embroidery, Lookbook

I’ve brought a few things I’ve loved from Boohoo in the past, but never usually come across anything very ‘me’ on offer, I always think of it as very similar to ASOS’s own label, but with lower prices & a generally girlier selection of clothes. So I was quite pleasantly surprised to stumble across this lookbook & learn that it was for their new capsule collection. So surprised that I just had to share it, especially considering the prices!

Boohoo Boutique is the first capsule collection from the brand & aims to be the more grown up, luxury companion to the core collection, but most importantly without the luxury price tag. All of the pieces are limited edition & range from £20 for shirts to £75 for huge fluffy fur coats. I think they have done a surprisingly good job at creating a luxury collection considering the low price point & there are a lot of things I could easily see myself wearing here.

My favourite piece has to be the heavily embellished mesh tank top, I’m not sure I’d dare wear it braless, but I do love how delicate it looks worn without anything underneath. The gorgeous gold biker jacket, the maxi dress & the chiffon shirt with gold brocade trim are the other standout pieces for me. I’d be happy to give any of them a home in my wardrobe.

The wind seems to be following me around recently, every time we try to get some outfit shots the camera comes out & then suddenly out of nowhere it’s stupidly windy! It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have really watery eyes, in all of the photos apart from this one my face was a scrunched up, squinty mess!

I’ve had these Bebaroque leggings for quite a while now & they’re one of those things I always wonder why I don’t wear more often because they are really attention grabbing & great for adding a bit extra to my usual all black, then I wear them & remember why. I brought them in a medium & really ought to have gotten a small, they get so baggy after wearing them for a while, I kinda like them loose & how they bunch up around the knees, but constantly pulling them up is a major pain. I really need to take them in a little so they fit properly soon. I love the print on them though, the old school sailor tattoo design is pretty yet edgy & they have mermaids on too, what’s not to love about that? I originally wanted the tights version, the print was just down the front instead of all over & looked like actual full leg tattoos, but I never managed to get my hands on a pair before they sold out! I have a few other pairs of their tights & they are hands down my favourite hosiery brand, the designs are so unique, great quality & they’ve lasted a surprisingly long time too, which is rare for me & tights! I’m so looking forward to getting them out again with the return of the cold weather.

The latest addition to my growing Moxham collection is this ‘Egypt’ pendant, I’d wanted this for a while but couldn’t decide between the black or nude version, then this one went on sale over at BENGT & made my mind up for me! I love how all of the pieces are the perfect mixture of tough & delicate & they’re real statement pieces too. They’re fast becoming one of my favourite jewellery brands, I’ve already added a few more pieces to my Christmas wish list!

Philip + Unicorns / ILLUSTRATION

FAIIINT, Illustration, Illustrator, Philip, Horse, Pony, My Little Pony, MLP, Rainbow Hair, Fantasy, Pretty, FairytaleFAIIINT, Illustration, Illustrator, Unicorn, Unicorns, Horse, Pony, My Little Pony, MLP, Rainbow Hair, Fantasy, Pretty, FairytaleFAIIINT, Illustration, Illustrator, Philip, Horse, Pony, My Little Pony, MLP, Rainbow Hair, Fantasy, Pretty, Fairytale, Ballad Of Magazine, Print, Published, Ballad Of, Candy Pop, Baby K,

Finally my copy of Ballad Of ‘Baby K’ has arrived! It seemed like it was never going to get here, the girls at Ballad even had to send me out a second copy, as the first one was MIA, I blame the weather & the postman!

I cannot describe what an amazing feeling it is to have a piece of your work published, but I think having something published in print is just that little bit extra special & amazing! I’ve had work published before online, but this was my very first piece in an actual magazine, something physical that I could hold & flip through. I think the fact that I’ve been reading Ballad Of since almost the very first issue also makes it feel even more special, it has been on my desk since it arrived & I think I must look through it at least once a day – almost as if to check that yes, my work is still in there!

Both pieces were drawn especially for the issue, I was originally going to send just one, but I couldn’t decide which I liked more so decided to submit both. This way I could leave it to the girls to decide which they preferred, so I was even more thrilled to receive an email back saying they wanted to use both! I had been going through a bit of a phase of being obsessed with drawing horses & when I heard that the theme was ‘Candy Pop’ the first thought that came to mind was ‘real life My Little Pony’! Both are so different to my usual darker style, but I think that’s why I enjoyed doing them so much, it was a nice change to do something so sugary & girly!

PS: If you would like a copy of the issue & are in London, it’s available from The Tate Galleries, Selfridges, Harrods & various newstands & newsagents around the city, you can also buy a copy online here!

Brain Print Shirt / OUTFIT : MADE

FAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, GoldFAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, GoldFAIIINT, Outfit, Shirt, Cut outs, Made, DIY, Bodysuit, Print, Brain, Sheer Maxi, Spikes, Choker, Vero Moda, ASOS, Black, Nude, Peach, Gold

This shirt bodysuit was from one of the last collections I did as part of my degree, I think it’s one of my favourite things that I made during my 3 years there, it’s quite simple, but I like that, as it lets the print do all the talking. For this same reason, I’ve paired it with just a plain maxi & minimal jewellery here.

I’m not usually much of a print person, but we had to use print for that particular project & typical of me, I had to pick something slightly dark & gory! I’ve altered the colours & it’s been slightly manipulated, but the print is actually an image of brain tissue under a microscope, I saw it & knew I had to use it, I thought it was so beautiful! I’m hoping to have some spare time soon to get some more fabrics printed & make a few more pieces with the same print, as I think it’d look great as a draped dress or pair of leggings & I really like the thought of it as a lining for a jacket too.

On a separate note, apologies for the lame hiding behind my hair pose, my skin is still totally ruined & this is the only angle it looks remotely decent from. I feel awkward enough in front of a camera when I look nice, let alone when I’m feeling a total mess, but I felt some outfit posts were so long overdue that I really should do some anyway, especially as my skin is showing no signs of healing just yet. For those wondering whats wrong with it, I switched to a different pressed powder, my skin had an awful reaction to it & came out in a rash & lots of spots. I then brought some spot treatment gel to fix it, my usual one wasn’t in stock & I wanted it sorting quickly so I brought a different brand, left it on overnight & woke up with burns, scabs & holes all over my face where it had been! It’s scared my skin quite badly & some of the holes were so deep that even now, about 2 weeks later, they are still raw! Fingers crossed it gets better soon…
