I think January has to be my least favourite month of the year. Christmas, New Year & all of the festivities that go along with it are over, I’m always flat broke & the days are cold, dark & miserable. There is one tiny plus side to make up for all of that though, January sales! This year I’m trying to wait until final markdowns before I get anything, as I always end up kicking myself for being too eager & missing all the real steals.

Top of the list are these ‘Mojito’ heels created by architect Julian Hakes, so called because the single ribbon of leather that wraps around the foot resembles a twist of lime skin. Despite having no foot plate they offer all the support needed & this quirky detail paired with the flowing, organic lines & elegant wrapped shape make for such a unique looking pair. I so want to get my hands on some to try on & test out!

Another favourite is the draped laser cut dress by 2nd Day, I’ll always be a sucker for anything laser cut or draped & this dress has both of those in one! I’m also very tempted by the wrapped skirt from T by Alexander Wang & the cropped tux by Twenty8Twelve, both such staple pieces in my wardrobe & something I can never buy enough versions of, they’re currently at 50% off too & proving to be pretty hard to resist!

I’ve been getting steadily obsessed over the last few months with this ‘oxblood’ colour that seems to be everywhere right now. As you can probably guess, I’m not usually one to get all excited over the new ‘it’ colour for the season, but this is different. Even though it’s red, it’s a darker, moodier version. It still feels like a neutral, rather than an actual colour & it fits in with my almost all black wardrobe perfectly.

When I saw this dress on ASOS in the perfect shade, I knew I needed to buy it. It’s perfect for this time of year too, in heavy jersey, with a midi length & long sleeves it’s lovely & warm, the full skirt makes me feel so autumnal swishing around in the breeze too. I’m so glad to be able to get my snoods out again as well, simple layering like this is why I love autumn so much.

I mentioned previously how much I loved my tuxedo from the Todd Lynn for Topshop collaboration, well this is the other tux I managed to buy at the time. Again, it is beautifully constructed in gorgeous wool suiting (just as a good tux should be!) & the perfect structured, boxy shape too. The way it’s cropped right under the bust & the asymmetric faux fur lapels are what really make this jacket for me, it’s quirky, but in an understated, elegant kind of way. It must be one of my most worn jackets, I love throwing it on & feeling instantly sharper, and if it were to ever get ruined I would happily spend three times it’s original selling price for another one on eBay!

Black Sunday / OUTFIT

Whenever I’m feeling a bit rubbish, tired or ill I tend to wear either huge statement jewellery to cheer myself up or something really tailored so I look put together, even though I don’t feel it.

Yesterday was definitely one of those days & this Todd Lynn for Topshop tuxedo blazer is perfect for it, how could you not feel put together wearing this? It fits like a dream, has just the right amount of stiffness & structure, beautiful fabric, perfectly cut & the velvet collar gives it a little luxe too. This was by far my favourite designer collaboration Topshop have ever done, at the time I brought this & the cropped jacket with the fur collar. I’m still searching eBay waiting for the double breasted blazer & the satin lapel version to show up in my size, I was gutted I couldn’t afford them all at the time. I’m still saving up for one from the mainline collection too, they keep popping up on The Outnet when I have no money & taunting me!

These beat up Vivienne Westwood’s are my best ever eBay bargain, originally they were gold, peeling, scuffed & with ruined heels. They were also going for £35, they looked knackered, but I knew I’d be able to rescue them! The gold colour had to go, it looked beautiful but I knew they’d turn out awful with the poor home dye (paints!) you need to use for metallics, so I stripped the gold off, gave them a good condition & clean & dyed them black. They looked almost new after this, the leather wasn’t as scuffed as I’d thought, it was just the gold paint rubbing away, making them look worse than they were & after the cobbler fixed the heels they were as good as new! The signature Westwood molded toes are my favourite thing about these, they always get me funny looks & second glances!

Candy Pop! / OUTFIT

Ballad Of, Magazine, Candy Pop, Baby K, ASOS, Lilac, Dress, Denim, Topshop, Black, Cropped, Tux, Jacket, COS, Belt, Topshop, Lace Up, Boots, Balenciaga City, Bag, Ligia Dias, NecklaceTopshop, Lace Up, Ankle Boots, Battered, Worn, Distressed

Last Friday was the Ballad Of Candy Pop party for the launch of the latest issue ‘Baby K’, which I have a double page spread of illustrations in! Exciting! I’m just waiting for the post man to deliver my copy, so I shall give you all a look when it arrives! We had a wonderful night & got extremely spoilt with free drinks & goodie bags packed to the brim with awesome candy pop stuff! I only wish we could have stayed a little longer & that I’d had time to get my nails done!

The theme for the night was obviously ‘Candy Pop’, I hate to not make an effort & dressing up for themed parties is one of my most favourite things, so I didn’t want to go in my usual head to toe black. My wardrobe is distinctly lacking anything at all girly, so I decided to order this lilac dress from ASOS. Of course I had to add heaps of black to balance out the girly hue though! I’m surprised how much I like it actually, I think with it being denim & the seam detailing, it keeps it from being too girly & the lilac is beautifully faded & just the right side of being greyish that it’s almost a neutral. It’s a good addition to my tiny ‘not black’ side of the wardrobe!

I bet you’re wondering why I did a shoe photo of these almost falling to pieces boots, but they are possibly one of my favourite pairs & the pair I wear most often, so I felt it was only fair! I’ve had these for years, they are easily the most comfortable shoes I own & they are my go to shoe for gigs & festivals. When I heard the party was being held at The Old Blue Last, a notorious live music venue, I knew they were the only shoes that would do. The more battered they get, the more I love them, I think I will keep wearing them until they literally drop off my feet! I’ve already started scouring eBay in the hopes another pair will be listed, so that I can have a back up pair on standby!

I’m not sure if it was the free shots, or the fact we got talking to people, but before we knew it was time to get the train home & I totally forgot to take any photos of the night! I know, I’m a rubbish blogger! Below is a little instagram round up with a few from me & the rest from the Ballad Of facebook page so you can get a little feel for the night! I’m already looking forward to the next one & I promise I wont forget next time!
