The past few days I have been super tempted to just wrap up & hibernate indoors until the weather finally decides to behave, but that’s pretty much impossible when you have a husky & there’s snow outside. I’ve never seen a dog so excited by the snow until we got Nico (see his little happy face!), he would sit outside in it all day if he could. We decided we might as well make the most of having to be outside to walk Nico & use it as an excuse for an outfit post too, plus I know how much you all love him & he’s not been in a post for a while now…

You’re probably more used to seeing me in heels, but these Converse are easily one of my most worn pairs of shoes & I’m a huge fan of sneakers, especially white ones. I love the totally mono colourway of these, without even a hint of coloured trim & the leather just makes them even more perfect. They are completely battered, they’ve seen festivals, gigs, plenty of dog walks, holidays, trips & summers lazing around at the park. They’ve been chucked in the washing machine more times than I can count, they’re scuffed on every inch & the white paint is wearing off them, but I love them to bits & will happily wear them until they fall off my feet. I’ve always hated pristine looking sneakers anyway, I think they’re the kind of shoes that look so much better a little beaten up, each flaw reminding you of all the amazing times you’ve had wearing them.

This Minkpink biker jacket from MeeMee.com has been a bit of a life saver this past week, it’s beautifully heavy, in a thick felted wool, making it so warm & snug, perfect for these bitter days. The little details like the rose gold zips, cropped length & boxy cut make it stand apart from my other biker jackets, giving it quite a luxe appearance & I haven’t been able to stop wearing it since it arrived. Looking back at these, I probably shouldn’t have worn a vest, a tee and a sweater underneath the jacket though, it looks kinda bulky, but I was toasty & that’s all that matters when it’s this cold!

When I’m all wrapped up sometimes it can feel a little boring, so now the snow has finally melted it was the perfect excuse to dig out one of my trusty pairs of Finsk wedges. There is no outfit, no matter how boring, that these heels can’t add a much needed kick to.

This pair are one of the only pairs of shoes I own that aren’t black (& that I have never been tempted to dye black either!), I love the combination of the dark wood with the nude & white leather, plus that little pop of purple, they’re total perfection. They’re also surprisingly easy to walk in & comfortable, despite the height, thanks to the chunky wedge. So, not as impractical as many would believe when they see me around town shopping in them! If I can run in a pair of heels, to me that makes them practical!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had an amazing Christmas & saw out the end of 2012 with a bang!

Over the holidays I had a little break from all things online, it was so nice to just sit down with a good book, spend time with those I love, watch a movie & play some Xbox, uninterrupted by the constant compulsion to check my emails, twitter, facebook .etc, it was just what I needed & now I can’t wait to get started with 2013!

I’m so looking forward to finally catching up on emails & blog reading too over the next few days & seeing what you all got up to for Christmas & New Year!

The start of the new year has naturally lead to me to looking back over the last year, digging back through the archives & reminiscing. I thought a roundup of my 12 favourite outfits from 2012 would be a nice way to come back from my mini-break & start the new year. Which ones your favourite?

‘Snow White’ by Kim Yeong Jun for Singles Korea

I thought with it being almost Christmas I ought to post something a little festive & what better than a gorgeous snowy fashion editorial! I came across this editorial randomly a few weeks ago & since then I have been trying to find out a little more about the photographer behind it, Kim Yeong Jun with absolutely no luck. I can’t even find a website for him, which is really annoying, so I’ve linked to one showcasing a selection of his work. If you like this one, definitely have a look through, the rest is equally as beautiful.

I can’t help but compare this to Paolo Roversi’s work, one of my all time favourite photographers, it has that similar soft focus, painterly feel to it but it’s just a little sharper, a little more modern & I really like that. I love the way the light hits the model, it’s crisp but soft & really cuts through the dream like feel of the other elements making it feel so fresh.

I don’t think I even need to mention how perfect the styling is here, but it’s safe to say if the garments were black I’d happily be wearing these looks head to toe, though the more I look the more I’m craving some white pieces to add to my wardrobe…

I came across Kate MacDowell‘s work quite a few weeks ago now, I knew I was going to post it as soon as I saw it, but I’ve had to wait to let it really sink in. It’s been a long time since I came across a new artist who’s work left me so speechless like this. So many things I wanted to say about the pieces but my all my brain could think was ‘woooah’, hopefully it’s caught up again now!

Anatomy & nature are two of my favourite subjects & so it will be of no surprise to those of you who already knew so, that these pieces would make my heart skip. The way she manages to combine the two so perfectly, harmoniously even, is just beautiful.

Each piece is hand sculpted out of ghostly white porcelain, giving what would usually be a very dark, disturbing subject matter a real sense of purity & elegance, inviting those who would usually quickly look away to look a little closer and for a little longer. The aspect I find most striking though, is the feeling of fragility the porcelain gives the pieces, it makes for a beautiful statement on how delicate the balance is between us & nature. The small decaying animals which reveal a human skeleton underneath further illustrate this message, ‘what we do to our world, we do to ourselves’.

Firstly, as I said yesterday, so sorry for being MIA over the past week. It’s been super hectic & I had no time to sit down & actually blog. I do love this time of year, but it always seems to be quite stressful & when everything starts piling up ontop of me too! I’ve not even begun Christmas shopping yet either, so don’t even get me started on how much I still have to do for that… Eeek!

On Friday we went along to the Hemyca Atelier Event, held in the futuristic looking RBS building in Bishopsgate. We were treated to Christmas carols, a mini-catwalk, raffle prizes from each brand & of course the usual cocktails & canapes. It was a lovely evening, with lots of beautiful pieces on offer & it was great to be introduced to some brands I’d never come across too.

I loved the sharp black tailoring & leathers from Hemyca, the shirt dress with heavily embellished placket was one of my favourite pieces & also the sheer white dress/coat, I wish I could be trusted to wear something so pristinely white, but I’m just far too messy! I totally fell in love with the snakeskin print boots from Marta Jonsson too, in the softest suede & with the gold accents they were perfect, I wish I’d had the cash on me at the time as I’d have brought them in a heartbeat! The raw, organic looking jewellery from Susan Peires also caught my eye, I especially loved the rune necklaces & hammered rings.

We also got to catch up with the lovely Jess & Amy from Bracher Emden. I’m sure you’ve all heard me professing my love for this brand many times before, but I’m just so smitten with their designs, I would happily sing their praises in every single post if I could! I have always been more of a shoe person, but these bags are individually handcrafted in beautiful leathers & are more like wearable art than just another accessory. They single-handedly managed to turn me into a bag person & I now want all of them, even the brightly coloured ones, I can see this becoming a bit of an addiction!

This is the second outfit from my ’7 Days With StylistPick‘ challenge. We spent the day doing a little shopping & I also thought it’d be the perfect way to really put the boots to the test in terms of comfort. I’m happy to report that after a few hours of shopping they were still super comfortable, I think this is mostly down to the chunky shape, thick platform & nice wide fit. I’m used to walking around in heels all day, but it’s rare to find a pair of this height that are still comfortable after almost a whole day of walking, so I’m really quite impressed!

A day of shopping calls for a simple outfit that’s easy to keep getting changed out of when trying things on, so I went for a really basic look – tee & a skirt, plus my trusty snood for a little extra warmth.

This ribcage tee from AY Not Dead is one of my favourites & it adds a nice bit of interest to what would otherwise be quite a plain outfit. I’d never heard of the brand before but came across it in the ASOS sale last year, you all know how much I love anything anatomy related, so of course I had to have it! I just love the messy, painterly print & I can never get enough of charcoal grey tees. I haven’t seen the brand on ASOS since though, which is a real shame as looking through their current lookbook there are loads of pieces I’d buy in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anywhere to buy online though! If you happen to know of somewhere, please let me know!
