No your eyes are not deceiving you, that is a little colour you see! I’ve always been a grunge kid at heart & I could never resist a little plaid, though these days I tend to wear it more for slobbing around home than out of the house or tied around my waist like I used to. I threw this jacket over the top of the shirt one day when I was in a rush to take Nico out, and unexpectedly loved the combination & the way the sliver of shirt peeking out makes such an impact against the black, so I had to work it into an outfit. I guess you could call this an updated version of my teenage self, a kind of goth grunge!

I think you’ll be seeing this dress from OASAP around quite a lot, it’s the perfect layering piece, just the right length to be a dress or a top & I haven’t been able to stop wearing it. I know a lot of people don’t like the cheap polyester chiffon pieces from these type of stores are made from, but I honestly prefer it, it’s so much easier to care for & longer wearing than the nicer, but far more delicate kinds. I can’t count the number of times I’ve brought a beautiful silk or silk mix chiffon blouse or dress only for it to develop tears & holes after only a few gentle wears, to me it is not worth it especially when it’s something like this that you want to wear as an everyday piece. My dislike for it may be slightly influenced by my memories of what an absolute nightmare the silk kind is to work with & sew too!

the combination of the black drape dress and skirt with the red plaid is surprisingly good! love it!
I agree with you, the silk is easily destroyed, i avoid wearing my “dark fairytale” dresses, as i call them, for fear they will be filled with holes after i wear them a few times!

The flash of red really does make such an impact, I think if the dress wasn’t asymmetric it might detract something from all of your lovely layers, but because it’s such a dramatic shape and the jacket drapes over the red, I think it really adds another dimension to your outfit. I agree with you on the cheap chiffon-y material and I think it’s great too. I love more luxurious materials and items but I’m much less precious with clothes that were less expensive or that are made of less fragile material. It’s easier to relax in clothes that you’re not constantly worrying about ruining! xxx

Oooh, check you out rockin’ the plaid! I like it a lot. :) I personally love comfy chiffon skirts/dresses, you always look so amazing in asymmetrical pieces.

i love the hint of colour! love how you worked this in with your usual style, i think you’ve just created a new glam goth-lumberjack genre ;-) i’m with you on the poly-chiffon, it’s really great especially when you’re travelling – less creases to worry about, as more expensive fabrics tend to need more care on the road and i have no access to my garment steamer, haha. drop you a line soon about spain x

Hi Valerie! I’m afraid I’m not sure on what the actual name of this style is, but they are very old now. I’m actually listing a lot of shoes on eBay over the next few weeks, and these boots will be one of the items – if you happen to be a size EU40, please shout and I’ll drop you the link when they’re up! :)
