Designers at Debenhams

For 21 years now Debenhams have been giving us classic, affordable capsule collections from some of the very best British designers. I’ve brought many things from their various collections over the years myself, and was absolutely gutted to miss out on the beautiful black leather jacket from their Todd Lynn collaboration last year.

On my current wishlist are the softly draped jersey pieces from Betty Jackson and Preen’s tailored basics are perfect too, with the skater dress being my favourite piece. I’ve been looking for a small, basic little cross body bag to replace my old battered one for gigs & festivals for quite a while now too, and the squishy leather one with double zips is ticking every box for me, it’s currently on it’s way & if it fits my makeup bag in I’m sold!

To celebrate this 21st anniversary Debenhams are currently running a ‘Search for A Muse’ competition to find a muse for 5 of their designers, with a £500 gift voucher, goody bag & photoshoot for the winners! All you have to do is take a photo of yourself, upload it to twitter mentioning @Debenhams & the #DebsMuse hashtag and let them know which designer you think you’d be the perfect muse for. Full details & the designers taking part can be found here.

Next A/W14 New In Collections

A few weeks ago I met up with Tara to head down to Next‘s Autumn/Winter New In event held in a plush suite at the Ham Yard Hotel. Next always do these relaxed, intimate little previews of their new collections so well, it’s so nice to be able to browse the rails in your own time whilst catching up & chatting with the lovely team as well as other bloggers, all with a cocktail & cake in hand. Next just get it, and I love that every time I go to one of their events it feels like a little gathering of friends rather than the usual routine press day.

As soon as I walked in I was immediately drawn to the 2 rails stuffed with black & oxblood pieces, autumn/winter collections are always my favourite because I know there will be at least a few nice black pieces, but I was super happy to find so much of it here. Looking through there were so many pieces I wish I could have taken home with me there & then, but my favourites were a draped chiffon dress with deep cowl neck, a bodycon neoprene dress with lace details, a perfect little cropped jacket & not to mention all of the beautiful lace underwear, I’ll be keeping my eye out for all of them over the next few weeks.

As always we were also treated to other fun little activities to do whilst we were there. The talented Eleni of Fall into London illustrated each of us & our outfits on the day for us to take home & we also had palm readings from Julia. I’ve always been a bit of a sceptic when it comes to things like this, my mind likes science & hard facts, but I try to keep a fairly open mind too. She immediately noted my thumbs (if you’ve never noticed I have ugly ‘clubbed thumbs’) & told me a little of their history, which was really interesting and I must admit she did hit on a few things & personality traits that were scarily accurate!

I had such a nice afternoon catching up with all the usual faces, eating far too many cakes & adding a heap of new things to my rapidly growing wishlist. I also got to meet the incredibly lovely Claire & Katy this time too. Thanks again to Next for having me & for another great event!

Fall

FAIIINT all black outfit wishlist H&M Asymmetric shirt & jersey draped dress, Libertine Giles Deacon gold thorn ring, Peachoo + Krejberg waterfall cardigan, 2nd Day snake print leather suede trousers, Marion Ayonote Conqueror heels

2nd Day Snake Print Leather Trousers / H&M Draped Dress / Marion Ayonote ‘Conqueror’ Heels

I’ve spent the last week or so buried under fabric samples trying to decide on the final fabrics for the new jersey pieces for the store, so sorry for my little disappearing act recently. I’ll be able to show you guys the new pieces come October!

With the start of September I’ve been mentally making lists of pieces I need, or just want, for the coming seasons. The only problem now is that after a cold week where I was sure summer had come to an end, this week the sun is out again, the temperature is picking up & it’s too warm again to wear half of the new things I’ve brought! You can never win with our annoying British weather!

Lately H&M have really been impressing me with their clothing, both the draped dress & the asymmetric shirt are from there & are very reasonably priced. I’m waiting on my parcel containing both, so I’m hoping the fabrics are of an acceptable quality (I usually find H&M pretty decent for fabrics considering the cheap prices) & I’ll be able to show you them soon. I’ve also been wearing, and buying a lot more jewellery lately & the Giles Deacon thorn ring is my latest addition. I couldn’t pass it up so heavily discounted at ASOS though, it was £8 & just as beautiful in person – there are still a few left too!
