Belstaff ‘Sammy Miller’ Waxed Cotton Jacket / ASOS Tank Top / ASOS Highwaist Jeans / Keds Polkadot Sneakers * / Balenciaga City

One problem with having such a strict wardrobe in terms of colour and style, is that very occasionally I find myself wanting something that just doesn’t fit, that is so not me.

That’s exactly what happened with these Keds. I could have picked a plain black pair, or even the black & white polkadot pair (which are marginally more me, at least they’re black) but I just couldn’t get these red ones out of my head, no matter how many times I told myself I really, really shouldn’t like them. I couldn’t help it, something about them made me smile. I mean just look at them, they’re bloody adorable – not a word I ever thought I’d use to describe something in my own wardrobe but sometimes it’s nice to try something unexpected. These are currently available at Schuh.

Also, being known for wearing almost exclusively black means that anytime I do get something that’s not black, or is quite unexpected of me, it’s made out to be a much bigger deal that it actually is by my friends/family. Lots of sarcastic questions of ‘are you alright?!’, ‘who are you & what have you done with Steph?!’ & Ollie practically fell over in shock when I showed him these. Talk about over-dramatic!

Of course, I knew I would have to toughen them up to make them wearable for me & my Belstaff is my go to jacket for times like this, perfect classic biker shape & in beautiful, crunchy waxed cotton it’s a nice lightweight alternative to leather now it’s finally getting a little warmer. Paired with my new highwaisted jeans from ASOS I love the slight 50s rockabilly vibe this outfit has. It’s a classic outfit & one I wear a lot, but made that little bit more fun with the addition of the Keds.

I love these ked sneakers. I like that you branched out of your usual comfort zone. I think they really pop, and sometimes you just need a little color or some funkiness in a look. I love that you are the opposite of me, I actually just wrote in my recent post how I usually wear bright colors and when I do wear darker tones people are more surprised by that lol

I adore the pop of colour your red shoes give to this outfit! Adorable is definitely the right word to describe them – they are so sweet, I love the tan trim on them. Your jacket is pretty much perfect – I didn’t even realise it wasn’t leather until I read on! We were all impressed with Willow’s mode of transport – very cool! I too partook in the whole limo to prom thing – we didn’t even think for a second about an alternative. xx

True, they’re not so you, but they still fit the way you’ve combined them right? Red lipstick too next time? :D
Please do let me know to grab that coffee!!

I have to say I always find it frustrating when people make comments like that, as in are you okay just because you’ve bought something outside of what you normally would, it’s so melodramatic. I got a lot of that when I stopped wearing heels so much and opted for flats and I just couldn’t see what the big deal was.

ANYWAY that aside, I love the shoes, they are super cute, and would put a smile on anyone’s face. I like that they pop instantly with your all black outfit, a definite point of interest x

These are SO cute! I know that feeling when you sort of fall for something that you normally wouldn’t, when I’ve taken it home I’m always like ‘Erm well what am I supposed to wear with these?’ haha! These are so perfect for summer though, they look amazingly comfy too! xxx

Eeep, I can’t stop looking at them! I really do love this pop of colour and I’m so glad you went for them. They definitely give off a 50’s vibe. Keds are just sooo comfy and I prefer the shape to classic trainers. Super cute! <3

You’re right, it’s totally unexpected, but sometimes items like this are the best to inspired our typical style routine. I love these colourful Keds, and adore its retro aesthetic + Belstaff is always a great paring with … anything! :-) Have a great week! /Madsion

Sometimes there is just an out of character item like that that plays on the mind until you own it. I have several of them and surprisingly, I actually wear them which is pretty unexpected. Your shoes are super cute! I’m a huge fan of your normal flair for black but I really do love these shoes with the outfit. They give off a happy, carefree vibe in their own kind of way.

Steph, you look great in this look! I think that wearing something unexpected is part of the fun of creating an outfit and I have to say that the style of the Keds are very much ‘you’! Polka dots are always a good choice! Caterina
