FAIIINT London Edge 2014 the new alternative fashion trade show Bloggers meet FAIIINT London Edge 2014 the new alternative fashion trade show stalls Business Design Centre Islington

At the start of this month I was invited down to London Edge at the Business Design Centre in Islington for a bloggers meet up. Though I have been to other trade shows in the past I’d (surprisingly!) never been to one like this in which the entire focus was on a darker, alternative kind of style & as soon as I walked through the doors I felt totally at home!

I arrived slightly early so I had a slow browse around the stalls before heading up to the press area which was our meeting point, immediately I was greeted by the lovely Sarika with a glass of bubbly, introduced to the other girls & given a truly stuffed goody bag! I didn’t know any of the other bloggers that were invited beforehand other than beautiful Jade, but it was actually really nice, as I realised I am so used to seeing the same groups of people at events now & in this case, everyone had a similar interest in alternative fashion, which made it easy to get talking to each other. We all had a few of the delicious cupcakes from the talented Tattooed Bakers & some more bubbly before splitting into groups to be given a tour around the stalls & introduced to their owners by the South of Heaven girls.

There was a nice mix of styles represented from my kind of all black everything to street wear, punk, classic goth, rockabilly & retro and everything in between. I’m already a big fan of Widow, so it was nice to see their new pieces out to have a browse and I also loved Killstar‘s occult inspired prints & Disurbia‘s shirt dresses, hoodies, distressed tees & tanks. I’m always a sucker for homewear too and I wanted to take home everything from Sourpuss‘s display, I mean who wouldn’t love a brain plate, tattooed mugs or set with sailor inspired ink illustrations?!

I loved that we were shown around, as it meant we didn’t miss a thing & got to have a proper chat with lots of the brands, plus exploring in small groups made it so much more fun too & I left having met some genuinely awesome new people. Sadly I couldn’t make it to the after party, which looked an absolute blast, but hopefully next time!

This was the outfit I wore for the first day of London Fashion Week, a few of you asked to see what I wore whilst I was down & I did really like this outfit considering it was thrown together in about 1 minute flat before running out the door for my bus! I forgot to get any proper photos of it on the day though as I was rushing around, so I decided to put it back on to shoot it once I was back home.

This chiffon kimono is one of my favourite things I’ve brought recently, a tiny £15 from Boohoo it’s the perfect mid-season layering piece & adds a nice bit of drama too. Wearing this in London I barely got a second glance, but I think the combination of the hat & the flowy kimono was a bit too much for the people of Leicester, as it drew a lot of laughter & snide remarks from the tracksuit clad locals & old ladies!

LFW SS15 : Street Style

London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street StyleLondon Fashion Week Spring Summer 2015 Somerset House Street Style

I called this post ‘street style’ but to be honest it’s more just a series of candid photos from around Somerset House, I am far to shy & awkward to walk over to strangers and ask them to stop to pose for a photo of their outfit! Instead I just lurked around, sneaking quick candid shots of people walking by me & the general atmosphere. Maybe next time I’ll be a little more ballsy & stop people, but to be honest I kind of like the more natural feel.

I didn’t actually plan to make this a full post, I took these mostly for myself & to get in some proper practice to help me further get to grips with using the DSLR on manual, but I liked the way they came out, so I didn’t want them to just sit in a folder on my desktop & be forgotten about. I know I’m saying that a lot recently, but for someone who couldn’t even get a decently focused photo out of it in the beginning I’m proud of how much better I’ve got in a short space of time, and of how I’m actually starting to really like some of the shots I’ve taken. Though admittedly I did miss a lot of great outfits because of my shaky hands or not having the settings adjusted right! It’s a learning curve I know, and whilst I’m sure I’ll never be upto Ollie’s standard, hopefully I’ll soon be good enough that I don’t feel like I have to apologise to you guys for the drop in quality when ever I’ve had to do the photos! I’m only half joking there.

I spoke with quite a few people about how there were way less of the crazy outfits that we’ve come to expect this season, everyone seemed much more casual & practical, which honestly I preferred. I’m really not the greatest fan of that idea of throwing together the craziest outfit you have in an attempt to get photographed! Some of these I’ve included because I liked their outfits, others purely because I liked the photo.
