‘New Frontiers’ by Marcus Ohlsson for Elle UK March 2013

I have to admit, it’s been a pretty long while since I last picked up Elle magazine, or Vogue, or any of those other big name monthly glossies for that matter. I used to be an addict, every month on the release date I’d run off to the shops to buy a heap of them & then spend the day excitedly pouring over every word & image. Lately I find myself bored with them though, I’d flip through them & get to the end feeling totally unsatisfied, I hadn’t enjoyed reading it at all & so I stopped buying them.

I’m not sure what made me buy the newest issue of Elle, but I’m extremely glad I did. Yes, it’s bloated with adverts making it look deceptively chunky & no Victoria Beckham on the cover is not doing anything for me, but this one editorial made it totally worth it.

It’s so otherwordly it stopped me dead in my tracks. Xiao Wang makes the most stunning ghostly, alien like figure in the shots & the unearthly backdrop in dreamy greyed pastels gives the minimal pieces a beautiful sci-fi edge, taking them to a whole other level for me. I also, surprisingly, hadn’t come across Marcus Ohlsson‘s work before seeing this, but after spending half an hour pouring over his portfolio he’s quickly been added to the mental favourite photographers list.

Todd Lynn for Topshop Tux Jacket / Vero Moda Draped Dress c/o Zalando * / Lux Coronette Claw Necklace / Rick Owens Wedges / Balenciaga City

Does anyone else have a default outfit you throw on when your feeling lazy, but want to still look like you’ve made a bit of effort? This is mine. It’s not always these exact pieces, but this is the general lazy outfit formula – jersey dress for comfort, sharp blazer to smarten it up, minimal jewellery & super comfy wedges.

This Todd Lynn for Topshop tux jacket & my fur collared one from the same collaboration are those kind of pieces I think could smarten up even the scruffiest of outfits. They are my go to jackets when it comes to lazy days like these, you can’t fail to feel put together when wearing one. It’s the super stiff, boxy shape, that feels as though it forms around the body like an armor, thanks to some brilliant cutting. I would happily have paid a lot for either of these jackets, I’m still after one from the mainline.

Vero Moda is a brand that went under my radar for the longest time, then one of their stores popped up in our shopping center & now I can’t get enough! They do so many great basic, staple pieces with a bit of a twist & the prices are also kind of amazing when you consider how nice the quality & materials are. This draped dress has become a bit of a favourite, and I get the feeling I’ll be adding many more of their similar black jersey dresses to my wardrobe pretty soon.

Francis Leon Spring/Summer 2013 Lookbook

Lately I cannot get enough of Aussie designers, everything they produce just seems to ooze this laid back, effortless kind of charm & elegance, clothes that although intricately detailed & in super fine fabrics feel as though you can just throw them on.

Francis Leon is the latest Aussie designer crush to add to that list. The label produces the kind of clothes I image superheroines wear on their days off, a mixture of futuristic, graphic paneling, tight silhouettes & functional sportwear detailing, it’s laid back luxe at it’s best.

The SS13 lookbook has me hooked even further, it has this infectious sci-fi rock’n’roll kind of attitude about it, it makes me want to be that girl & want to own every piece, especially the jackets. My favourite is without a doubt the first jacket, it’s the perfect biker & the little flash of oxblood on the inner arms make it really special. It’s these little details that really make the collection stand out, the small ribbed inserts, the masterful mixing of textures & fabrics, subtle paneling & the beautiful fitted cuts, they’re the type of pieces that you’ll always find something new to love & wear to death because they make you feel so kick-ass.
