JW Anderson x Topshop

September 5th 2012 Covet

JW Anderson, Topshop, Collaboration, Designer, Highstreet, Grunge, Lookbook, Autumn, Winter, 2012,JW Anderson, Topshop, Collaboration, Designer, Highstreet, Grunge, Lookbook, Autumn, Winter, 2012,JW Anderson, Topshop, Collaboration, Designer, Highstreet, Grunge, Lookbook, Autumn, Winter, 2012,

I know most of you will have probably seen these lookbook images everywhere by now & I don’t really see this blog as somewhere to post about all the latest fashion news, but I am far too excited about this not to share it myself!

I’ve been a huge fan of JW Anderson since his first womenswear collection, so I was extremely excited to hear the rumors of his collaboration with Topshop. I’ve felt a bit ‘blah’ about most of the recent Topshop collaborations & I didn’t want to get my hopes up too much, but I can safely say that this one has easily exceeded my expectations. I want almost every piece here, but especially the sweaters & shirts.

I would wear quite a few of these looks head to toe (minus the plaid trousers!), if I could afford to buy that many pieces, something which I rarely find myself saying about Topshop’s lookbooks. However looking past the brilliant styling, all of the items are classic wardrobe staples that could easily fit into most wardrobes. The chunky knit sweaters, stripes, oversized shirts & crisply tailored jackets are exactly the kind of things I buy over & over again. They’re chameleon pieces that can be worked into almost any style or look, seasonless & immune to changes in trends, the perfect investment pieces.

I love the grungey styling & look of the images nearly as much as I love the clothes, if not more. We all know I have a soft spot for grunge, but it’s so good, it’s almost convincing me that I need a pair of plaid trousers that I know I’d never wear… Oh, and some roller skates…

I’ve seen their bags but not their clothing line. I didn’t know they’ve collaborated with Topshop! how exciting! I like the black jacket. That’s the one missing item I hope to get once I’ve found the right fit.

I want that anchor sweater. I’m also a huge fan of the letterman jacket but a bit unsure of how it will look on me. It’s kinda too Americana for me to wear, I think.

Yeah, I was debating that one also, possibly a little to preppy for me too, I’m probably going to order it so I can try it in person though, I just love the leather sleeves!

Ooh I haven’t seen this but I am liking the sharp tailoring already! Particularly loving the first image with the anchor sweater, so perfectly styled with the stripe top.. I’ll have to live vicariously thru you tho, it’s like the first week of Spring here and 25c already!

I love the styling here too! Very dark and moody. I love the first two looks the most, the jumpers there are fantastic! x

Oh, I adore this. I find that a lot of outfits / stylists that try to be “grunge” almost always make the outfit look ugly. Reminds me of Zoolander’s Derelicte, for some reason. But Anderson elevates that and makes it ever so sophisticated, and I love that.
I especially like his knits with some kind of graphic on them! It adds a bit of playfulness to the entire look. :)

Yes! I hate that! Especially since grunge became one of the major trends again over the past few seasons, most of the takes on it seem to be so cliche & quite ugly, especially on the high street. This is the first one in such a long time that’s really captured my imagination & I agree, it’s definitely the sophisticated edge Anderson has given it. Also, I adore Zoolander… I really want to go watch it now you’ve mentioned it! :D

I have to admit that this morning I was very tempted by the batman pull, the pleated skirt and the zebra skirt…it was very difficult to resist, but I’m about to leave for two weeks in Asia and in preparation for this trip, I’m resisting to everything! What did you buy?! I’m curious to know…
