Burgundy

Yumi Burgundy Jacket * / ASOS Snood / ASOS Maxi Skirt / Balenciaga City

Last year I got a little obsessed with this oxblood colour & introduced a few pieces into the blackness of my wardrobe. I’m not sure why, but it only seems appropriate for the colder months, it feels wrong to wear it when it’s warm. Isn’t that weird? Black isn’t exactly a colour associated with summer either & I wear that all year regardless, so why is oxblood any different?

I love the way burgundy looks against black though, and it doesn’t really feel like a colour to me either – It’s deep & moody, and feels like just another layer of black. I’ve been looking for a jacket in this colour for a while. This one from Yumi is made from a thick, soft cotton & has a silky jersey lining, making it much warmer than it looks, and gives it a satisfying weight to it too. I always think biker jackets should be quite heavy & weighty, they don’t have the same appeal to me otherwise. Topped off with my old favourite snood, it was the perfect outfit for running a few errands on a chilly autumn day.

Yes I can’t see myself wearing burgundy in the summer either. I think we dress to the colours of the season… more of a mood thing. Black isn’t a colour as such so nonseasonal. Plus it goes with everything :) I LOVE that jacket, suits you perfectly. Also I love you in a maxi xx

Yeah, I agree actually, black is very nonseasonal. I have so many maxis now, it’s getting to be a bit of an obsession! ;)

I’m glad I’m not the only one with the same sentiments as well with Burgundy as one of those colors that are very seasonal. Been wondering the same thing as well, I’ve got a few burgundy pieces but every time I wear one I automatically think its strictly an Autumnal piece.

Speaking of relevant autumn/winter colors what’s your opinion on the powder pink (or pastel pink) coat that’s been “en vogue”? For me I find it pretty silly since A/W colors should be dark, moody and strong. Not lackluster. Although white is an exception for A/W (just because I think of Russians wearing amazing white fur jackets or any Europeans in general) though but bringing that in will open more debate, haha.

The hardware detail is very pretty as well, it matches the Balenciaga bag. Definitely make up for the lack of jewelry on the outfit.

I’m glad it’s not just me too! I was talking about it to a few of my friends about it & they just said ‘It’s a colour, you’re thinking too much into this…’ and I wondered if maybe I was. Seems a lot of people feel the same though.
The pastel coats – I like them on certain people, but agree in general that AW colours should be dark & moody. I could never see myself in one, and I think there are very few people that can actually pull it off, though I do think the same about grown women wearing a lot of pastels anyway! Ha! I think it’s one of those trends that looked striking & fresh in the editorials, but for the everyday girl in the street it’s just a bit blah.
I think white is strong, despite being a light colour, it’s stark & striking, and makes just as much of an impact as black! So, it works well for AW. I am very against fur though, but that’s another debate! ;)

Look at you introducing colour here and there (I like it!).
It’s true, I feel the same about burgundy, it is a cold season colour.

I know what you mean, maroon tones or those moss like green ones I never feel quite right about transitioning into warmer months. Which sucks because I love that army green on me hahaha!

Gorgeous as always Steph, I agree about burgundy, it’s definitely more a moody Winter colour. I love how it contrasts with black too xxx

Burgundy is definitely a cold weather colour for me too. It’s such a big part of the fall palette (even trees think so – ha!). Biker jackets really need to be heavy for me too. I had a light version that always felt weird not being weighty enough. This one from Yumi looks nice and thick and warm! And I love that snood, is it the exact one from the link? It looks so much better on you than in the photo!

PS – Your hair looks amazing!

I ordered one in the summer that was kind of a light silk/crepe that looked lovely in the photos, but it just felt so wrong on me! Almost more like a shirt than a jacket.
I’m not 100% sure if the snood is the exact same, I got mine a few years ago – this one looks the same, with the same slightly loose knit, was from ASOS & the same price too, so I’m assuming it must be pretty similar if not the same product.

The burgundy dilemma! I have a tee in a favourite cut which I’ve been waiting to wear all through winter – now the warmer weather is here, it doesn’t feel right. Maybe it could work with cream & white (gasp!) but… lesson learned.

Oh! I think it would look really nice with white/cream actually, definitely worth giving it a try if it means you can wear it again :)

I’m the same, black all year round is fine but burgundy? NO! I agree about jackets too, they must be kinda heavy. Love yours, it’s such a lovely colour and the material makes it look really comfy to wear xxx

thanks so much for the lovely comment Steph! <3 you should definitely try out videos! I shyed away from them for a long time and it took me a while to build up the confidence for them. but I just pushed myself to do it and keep doing videos. I think all of your readers would love to see videos from you! I love British accents too! :)

the oxblood jacket looks lovely on you! I know what you mean about the additional layer of black, the burgundy is such a rich and deep colour that doesn't go very well with light summer colours. gorgeous outfit as always! <3

No problem Izzy! :) I think I will have to be brave & give it a shot! I think they’re a great way to be more personable, it’s so hard to get your personality across in writing, but with videos people can see you exactly as you are. I keep meaning to do a hair tutorial too…

I love burgundy and black too! That jacket is gorgeous, I like that it looks like a leather biker but its actually cotton. I somehow ended up wearing all black again in my latest outfit post… I was thinking about how you look amazing in black maxi skirtss and why shouldn’t I wear one in this weather, like you!? Then when I was editing the snaps I realised I was wearing all black haha. I think I was trying to channel you! Such a style icon. ;) <3
