It has been almost non stop torrential rain for the past week, a typical start to the British summer really, but finally we’ve been given a little break. Yesterday it was on & off all day, so we decided we’d better make the most of it & get some quick outfit shots, do excuse my probably moodier than usual face (and hair!) I’d been rained on all day as I was stupidly optimistic & didn’t take an umbrella out with me. You’d think I’d know better by now!

This is pretty much my standard casual outfit, if you ever see me around running errands, having an off day or walking the dog I’ll be wearing some version of this. The newest addition to this formula though is my new Nike Sky Hi‘s & I have barely taken them off since they arrived. The clever concealed wedge gives you a little height, whilst keeping all the comfort of a standard sneaker, plus that classic, chunky Dunk shape will always be one of my favourites. I think this may be the start of a bit of an obsession, I already have my eye on the newer black on black colourway (of course!) and I honestly don’t know why I didn’t get myself a pair sooner.

‘El Tatio’ Owen Perry

From the ‘El Tatio’ series by Owen Perry

El Tatio or ‘The grandfather that cries’ is one of the largest geyser fields in the world, high up in the Andes mountain range of northern Chile, but you’d be forgiven for thinking these were shots of some desolate alien world instead. A place that looks at once familiar, and yet foreign to us too, with purple tinged twilight shrouding the area in an otherworldly atmosphere.

Owen Perry specialises in landscape & travel photography, capturing remote, isolated places that most of us will never get the opportunity to experience first hand ourselves. The rest of his portfolio is equally as stunning, ‘Lost Lake’, ‘Valle de la Muerte’ & ‘Scottish Highlands’ being among some of my other favourite sets. His works leave me feeling humbled, with a real sense of awe and a hunger to get out there & explore more of our beautiful world.

“My work involves a lot of nature, so there’s certainly an altruistic hope that people get outside to explore more and learn to love and respect our planet. Until we discover some sort of interstellar or cross-dimensional form of travel, Earth is all we really have.”

I’ve been a little absent recently as life & work things have gotten in the way the past week or so, but now things are settling back down & everything should be back to normal. I hope my fellow Brits that are reading have enjoyed our 4 days of Summer too & made the most of it? I think that’s it for us this year! The balmy weather & my lack of suitable smarter clothing for this heat meant I found myself doing a lot of window shopping & mentally wishlisting suitable outfits.

This Helmut Lang skirt has been on my mind for a while now, when I first saw it last year all the black versions had sold out & I was gutted, but it seems to have popped back up again for this season & now I can’t decide! The problem is, now I’ve seen it in person I know I could make this myself very easily in a few hours or so, for barely more than £15 & I could make it more of a highwaisted fit that I’d prefer too, only I never seem to have the spare time to! It would be perfect with the little bralet showing a sliver of stomach in between, casual, comfy & perfect for the heat, but with a slickness about it too.

My favourite way to smarten anything up is to throw a good blazer or tux over it, and as you’re probably aware I’m pretty partial to cropped versions. This one from The Kooples is going straight to the top of my ‘reward for when you’ve paid off your overdraft’ list, the boxy cut, the satin lapels & the perfect length, it is beyond perfection. Anyone else have to bribe themselves with ‘rewards’ for things like this or is it just me? I’ve not spent a single penny on unnecessary items for months now, and the idea of a reward is the only thing keeping me on track!
