It has been almost non stop torrential rain for the past week, a typical start to the British summer really, but finally we’ve been given a little break. Yesterday it was on & off all day, so we decided we’d better make the most of it & get some quick outfit shots, do excuse my probably moodier than usual face (and hair!) I’d been rained on all day as I was stupidly optimistic & didn’t take an umbrella out with me. You’d think I’d know better by now!

This is pretty much my standard casual outfit, if you ever see me around running errands, having an off day or walking the dog I’ll be wearing some version of this. The newest addition to this formula though is my new Nike Sky Hi‘s & I have barely taken them off since they arrived. The clever concealed wedge gives you a little height, whilst keeping all the comfort of a standard sneaker, plus that classic, chunky Dunk shape will always be one of my favourites. I think this may be the start of a bit of an obsession, I already have my eye on the newer black on black colourway (of course!) and I honestly don’t know why I didn’t get myself a pair sooner.

‘El Tatio’ Owen Perry

El Tatio or ‘The grandfather that cries’ is one of the largest geyser fields in the world, high up in the Andes mountain range of northern Chile, but you’d be forgiven for thinking these were shots of some desolate alien world instead. A place that looks at once familiar, and yet foreign to us too, with purple tinged twilight shrouding the area in an otherworldly atmosphere.

Owen Perry specialises in landscape & travel photography, capturing remote, isolated places that most of us will never get the opportunity to experience first hand ourselves. The rest of his portfolio is equally as stunning, ‘Lost Lake’, ‘Valle de la Muerte’ & ‘Scottish Highlands’ being among some of my other favourite sets. His works leave me feeling humbled, with a real sense of awe and a hunger to get out there & explore more of our beautiful world.

“My work involves a lot of nature, so there’s certainly an altruistic hope that people get outside to explore more and learn to love and respect our planet. Until we discover some sort of interstellar or cross-dimensional form of travel, Earth is all we really have.”

Slick

FAIIINT Wishlist Topshop bralet, Allsaints choker & chain double rings, The Kooples cropped jacket, Helmut Lang draped skirt, Margiela Box bag, Nicolas Andreas Taralis boots, leather Ray-Ban wayfarers

I’ve been a little absent recently as life & work things have gotten in the way the past week or so, but now things are settling back down & everything should be back to normal. I hope my fellow Brits that are reading have enjoyed our 4 days of Summer too & made the most of it? I think that’s it for us this year! The balmy weather & my lack of suitable smarter clothing for this heat meant I found myself doing a lot of window shopping & mentally wishlisting suitable outfits.

This Helmut Lang skirt has been on my mind for a while now, when I first saw it last year all the black versions had sold out & I was gutted, but it seems to have popped back up again for this season & now I can’t decide! The problem is, now I’ve seen it in person I know I could make this myself very easily in a few hours or so, for barely more than £15 & I could make it more of a highwaisted fit that I’d prefer too, only I never seem to have the spare time to! It would be perfect with the little bralet showing a sliver of stomach in between, casual, comfy & perfect for the heat, but with a slickness about it too.

My favourite way to smarten anything up is to throw a good blazer or tux over it, and as you’re probably aware I’m pretty partial to cropped versions. This one from The Kooples is going straight to the top of my ‘reward for when you’ve paid off your overdraft’ list, the boxy cut, the satin lapels & the perfect length, it is beyond perfection. Anyone else have to bribe themselves with ‘rewards’ for things like this or is it just me? I’ve not spent a single penny on unnecessary items for months now, and the idea of a reward is the only thing keeping me on track!

Princesse Tam Tam

FAIIINT Princesse Tam Tam lingerie Espionne soft cup underwired black bra with frilled edges. Fashion blogger.FAIIINT Princesse Tam Tam lingerie Adelie underwired polka dot mesh black bustier bra with ruffled edges, Asos satin kimono robe. Fashion blogger.

I’ve never been one to feel embarrassed about people seeing me in my underwear, most of my friends have probably seen me running around in my bra (or less, thanks to the now infamous Lady Gaga Halloween outfit!) more times than they care to think about & I’ll often say that given the choice I’d choose no clothes over going makeup-less. For someone with such insecurities about their face, I guess it’s kind of weird that I’m totally comfortable with my body.

I won’t lie though, I did debate whether I ought to post these, not because it made me uncomfortable but because I wondered if they were appropriate for the blog or if it may come across as a little trashy. Being soft cup bras though, the fact is shooting them flat really couldn’t show off just how gorgeous they are (we did try!) & it seemed like a waste of a beautiful product to not do them justice. We tried to shoot them in as natural a way as possible, to give more of a casual, out-take kind of vibe instead of looking too posed or sexy, so hopefully they come across that way. As I say with all of my outfit posts, which is why I’m often in the exact same pose – it’s not about me, it’s purely about showing off the clothes & I see this as being no different. I’ve always wondered why underwear photos are seen as so taboo though, I mean, so many girls happily post up photos of themselves in bikinis on holidays, or super cropped tops that are just as revealing as underwear, so what’s the difference other than what we call it? I think as long as you’re comfortable, why should a little flesh bother anyone else?

Princesse Tam Tam is one of my favourite brands when it comes to underwear, they make the best triangle & soft cup bras hitting that perfect balance between being comfortable, practical & pretty. These two sets are no different either, made from beautiful, soft fabrics in classic shapes they’re unfussy enough to wear everyday, yet the little details like a ruffled trim or spotty mesh give them a playful edge & make them so much more than just your everyday bras. I love that as a brand their bras are always a very flattering cut for small busts like mine too, something which is becoming harder & harder to find in UK stores as they all now seem to be targeted towards a more standard, fuller chest. Thank god for the French!

Teeth

Goth street style all black everything. Fashion blogger Stephanie of FAIIINT wearing Catarzi black huge fedora, OASAP graphic black & white dog mouth teeth tee shirt. Goth street style all black everything.

I have an embarassingly huge collection of graphic & band tees, but I haven’t been wearing them much at all lately & I don’t think I’ve brought any new ones for almost a year. As soon as I saw this dog mouth tee though I knew I had to have it & couldn’t wait for it to arrive. I’ve mentioned loads of times in the past that I love clothes that remind me of things I love or subtly hint to others about my interests, and what kind of crazy dog lady would I be without anything dog themed? I like that this is almost abstract though, it’s plain, graphic & in your face, and I just can’t stop wearing it!

I’ve been trying to ease off wearing this fedora so much, because I felt like I was wearing it in almost every post, but outfits like this make me realise exactly why I love it so much. The rest of this outfit is really simple & casual, and it just adds that little extra bit of drama that really finishes the whole thing off. It’s addictive, and that’s why I always find myself reaching for it when getting dressed, everything else just seems unfinished without it on my head!
