Cape

FAIIINT wishlist Oak asymmetric draped cardigan, Ax + apple crescent moon necklace, Mango cape, Shellys London lace up boots, ASOS leather backpack, Paige black edgemont jeans, Burcu Okut ice queen ring. Black & silver.

This is giving me a bit of a casual witchy vibe, and I kinda love it! I’ve been looking for a nice cape for months, and this one from Mango seems like a perfect choice, the voluminous a-line shape & hip length is perfect, wool blend and you really can’t argue with that price either. I currently have my eye on a vintage one on eBay though, so I’ll see how that goes first! I love the cape-like shape of OAK’s draped cardigan too, though for the price I’m not really sold on the material choice, I think this is something I’ll have to make a version of for myself instead.

It’s been a long time since I brought a pair of Shellys shoes, it’s a brand that reminds me of my teenage years & a few very unfortunate shoe choices too. Whilst browsing ASOS these lace up boots pretty much stopped me in my tracks & I was a little surprised to see the brand. Though I’m not super keen on the olive inners (I’d probably dye them!) they look far more expensive than they actually are & are just a bloody good pair of stompy boots & you know how much I love those!

I’ve been feeling under the weather all of last week, my sinuses have been constantly swollen (Oh, hi there puffy, squinty eyes!) & I feel completely knackered, but I don’t have a proper cold & I’m not really ill enough to moan about it. Annoying. I’m putting it down to the sudden change in the weather, but what I’m trying to say is that I spent all of last week in outfits pretty much identical to this one. Comfy, slouchy perfection.

I love throwing things like this together when I’m not feeling great, it’s snuggly & super comfy, but most importantly it doesn’t look sloppy either. I always find that when I’m feeling rubbish if I stay in my PJs or put on my favourite scruffy oversized tees & holey sweaters curled up on the sofa I just end up moping, so instead I put on something nice, but just as cosy & it helps me feel a little better. This sweater from The Ragged Priest is a godsend for these kind of days, I love the chunky knit, oversized fit and too long sleeves & how the glossy coating makes all this instantly look a bit more polished & interesting. It’s just as warm & cuddly as my ancient ones too.

Last week I was invited down to Malcolm Murphy Hair for a cut & colour with the wonderful Shelley. I’d heard great things about the salon, having won a whole bunch of awards & so I was excited to check it out for myself. Situated on Hinckley Road, I loved the location away from the business of the city centre, it gives a much more relaxed vibe & stepping through the door this continued too, crisp white walls, dotted with opulent furniture & fresh flowers creating a welcoming, homely feel, I felt right at home as I waited with my coffee & biscuits, all served on a golden platter.

When I arrived it was almost full with customers, but not once did I feel rushed, as I’ve found all too often at busy hairdressers & every member of staff was super friendly & laid back, it was a really nice atmosphere. Shelley chatted with me about my hair, and told me she thought it really suited me the way it was so she didn’t want to do anything too drastic, which I was happy to hear. I said how I’d spent the best part of a few years growing it out now & though I’ve gone through phases where I’ve considered something a bit more dramatic I feel like I’ve spent too long getting it to this point to go chopping it off just yet! We decided to just freshen it up, putting some of the layers back in that had almost grown out, to give it a little more shape & sticking to the same dark chocolate colour, but one with a high gloss finish – it feels so bouncy & healthy again, and look at how shiny it is!

As I waited for my colour to develop I had a little wander around to take some photos & spotted Rocco, Malcolm’s incredibly adorable pup sitting on one lady’s lap having cuddles whilst she was having her hair cut! You know I’m a crazy dog lady at heart, so this was like the icing on the cake for me, he was so sweet & well behaved too.

If you’re in Leicester I couldn’t recommend paying Malcolm Murphy Hair a visit more, I came home feeling relaxed & totally pampered, I was actually a little sad that I had no plans for later to show my hair off, so I went into town and treated myself to some retail therapy & a coffee, then took Nico for an extra long walk afterwards!

This is the beautiful lace kimono I picked up from Urban Outfitters that I mentioned in last weeks store post, it’s one of those perfect throw over anything pieces & I have been wearing it to death already, especially paired with my fedora & the pretty Luna Love necklace from Bloody Mary Metal for witchy vibes. I feel like there’s a slight Victorian feel going on here too, with the lace & the high necked bibbed shirt, it’s not usually an era I reference in the way I dress, but I kind of like how it accidentally happened here & I think it works because it’s pretty subtle.

I promised myself last month that I was on a shoe ban until I threw out or gave away at least a few old pairs, as my shelves are overflowing & they are now taking over my floor too! I am a complete addict though & I just couldn’t resist when I saw these Kurt Geiger beauties in the sale, you know I love a good wedge & these are pure ponyhair perfection! Sadly, it seems only the suede versions are left now, but they’re a total steal at £29.

It’s the start of October and here I am in a sheer shirt & no jacket, I have no idea what’s going on with the weather! It’s been the warmest Autumn since I can remember, which is crazy considering it felt like Winter was coming early when it started getting grey & miserable around August. I guess it’s making up for that now?

You may have seen from my Twitter ranting that I had a bit of a splurge at H&M and was less than impressed with their delivery service. Well, my parcel finally arrived & it turns out it was thankfully worth the wait & hassle. This chiffon shirt was one of the pieces I ordered & I couldn’t wait to play with layering it up for winter, the weather had other ideas though & I ended up wearing it alone, getting my layering fix with a peek of bra & multiple necklaces instead. I’ve been wearing these two from Bloody Mary Metal constantly since they arrived, they are beautiful quality, solid & with a nice weight to them & I’ve had so many compliments on them already. I tend to go through phases with jewellery & I’ve been on a gold kick for quite a long time now, so it’s nice to finally have some silver pieces that I love as much as the gold again. Expect to be seeing a lot of these!

I’d been looking for a pair of good chunky lace up boots since I finally threw out my beloved, but beyond rescue, Topshop pair last year. The comfort was a huge factor, my old ones had seen me through many gigs, festivals & long bar shifts without a hint of pain & none of the ones I’d found came close to that, until this pair from Ash at Daniel Footwear, who stock lots of great brands including their beautiful quality own line. They have the looks, the reasonable sized heel, a nice stompy thick rubber sole & they are comfy as hell too.
