It’s officially summer & it’s the first day of the year warm enough for me to get my pasty white legs out. This type of weather instantly puts me in the best kind of mood, there really is nothing nicer than being able to just throw on a dress, a few simple pieces of jewellery, shades & you’re out the door. No fussiness, no unnecessary layers, just the absolute basics.

The foundation for getting ready this quickly & effortlessly does require a little prep though, especially this time of year. For me the key to feeling confident and carefree, when going bare-legged, is super smooth pins and being naturally very dark haired shaving just doesn’t cut it in the summer – it’s time consuming and lasts barely a day. I have been using Nair’s wax strips and hair removal creams for years now, because I’m lazy & I hate going to the salon (unless it’s for delicate areas I’d never dare try to DIY!) and why would I when I can do just as good of a job at home? The recently launched Argan Oil range contains Argan & Jojoba oils to give an extra moisturising boost, leaving skin even softer & silkier, which is perfect if you have dry skin like mine.

I’ve been testing the wax strips out over the last week, and I’m not going to lie, I haven’t been able to stop stroking my legs… And getting other people to stroke them! I just don’t think you can beat that freshly waxed feeling, it’s an instant confidence boost & feels so nice against clothes, and climbing under the sheets too. It’s the little things. Now all they need is a little bit of sun so they’re not quite so glow in the dark!

Learn more about the range here & join in using the hashtag #SkinByNair.

Laid Back

I’ve been feeling pretty casual & laid back recently with the warmer days creeping in, sticking to easy dresses, old favourite jeans and comfy shoes. These skinny jeans from Label Lab are the most perfectly faded black, they look like my favourite love-worn pairs, except without the actual wear & fear of them biting the dust at any moment! I’m a little gutted that they’re not quite high waisted enough on me to wear with little cropped tops without my stomach being out (damn my long torso!) but they’ve now set me off searching for a super high waisted pair to do just that with.

This beautiful grey clutch is from British brand Makki, who’s focus is on responsible luxury & creating pieces which are ethical without sacrificing style. I have a black zip wallet from the brand already, and it’s one of the most hard wearing purses I’ve ever owned. Despite getting beaten up in my bag on a regular basis it still looks brand new, thanks to the super soft & durable eel skin all of Makki’s bags and purses are made from, which is sourced as a by-product of the wider food industry. The Nuevo Disco style clutch was one of their first products & is still one of their best sellers too, it’s perfectly classic & unfussy, giving center stage to the unusual material. I love how this elephant grey colour really highlights all the subtle different tones of grey, so beautifully showing off the texture & unique markings of the eel skin.

Ladylike

When the weathers nice it always makes me want to reach for swishy skirts, I don’t know why but something about the sun being out just makes me dress a little more ladylike, or I go right to the other extreme of dressing like I did as a teen in skinnies, Chucks & battered tees! This beautiful midi skirt from Missguided is exactly what I want to be wearing, it’s that perfect shape for wearing with sleek cropped tops thanks to it’s high waist and soft structure, how lovely is the heavy textured satin too? It’s also in the sale for a tiny £10 and I’m pretty gutted my size is already sold out, you know how I feel about nice textures! I’m going to be stalking that page hoping it comes back in stock!

A few months ago I went down to the Arcadia S/S ’15 press day and saw these wonderful fringed ankle boots in a pretty taupe colour, I think I spent all night professing my love for them all over Twitter. I had my fingers crossed that they’d be releasing them in black as well, obviously, and finally they have & now I really think I need them! Ankle boots are one of my favourite ways to slightly rough up a girly outfit & keep if from being too prim, and these would be so perfect for that. Another way I love to do this is with jewellery and ASOS have some lovely gold plated sterling silver pieces in at the moment for really great prices, I brought the dainty shark tooth necklace last week and this little spike ring is now on my list too. I never buy cheap jewellery made from base metals as to me it’s a waste of money, I like to keep jewellery & have it last, so it’s nice to see some good basic pieces like these that are great quality & really affordable too.
