When I make an exception to the all black everything rule, you know it must be a pretty special piece. This faded tee is so old now that I can’t actually remember when I brought it, or where it came from. I’d completely forgotten it even existed until I unearthed it from the back of my wardrobe during an unusually thorough clear out. Crumpled up in a ball with a little sliver of red peeking out, as soon as I saw that colour I knew exactly what it was and immediately had to try it on to see if it still fit. The Thing is one of my all time favourite movies, and I could honestly talk about how great it is all day, so of course I’m not going to pass up the chance to declare my love for it in t-shirt form. Especially when it’s a super graphic, minimal print and features a husky-thing!

I’ve been living in these knee high boots from O.X.S. since last year, so I can’t believe this is actually their first appearance here on the blog. I came across them whilst aimlessly browsing eBay, they were ending and the price was too low to resist a sneaky last minute bid. Usually when I buy things on a whim like this, they end up sitting unworn in the depths of my wardrobe, very much like this tee was. These have been practically glued to my feet since they arrived though. They are ridiculously comfortable, and add an instant badass kinda vibe to every single thing you pair them with. It’s hard not to just throw them on with everything now.

Ban Sainai Resort / Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand

After two weeks of packing in as many sights and experiences as we possibly could, we were both really looking forward to some real down time in Krabi. This was the longest and most relaxed stay of our trip, and we knew we’d actually get to appreciate our home for the week here, so we decided to splurge on a stay at Ban Sainai Resort.

As we pulled up to the open air reception, we were greeted with cold towels and tea, and caught our first glimpse of the lush green gardens and cottages behind the desk. After we’d finished our drinks, a staff member took our bags and gave us a quick tour of the grounds before showing us to our garden cottage. The room was cool and spacious, with a large balcony overlooking the trees and lots of natural light. Stepping inside felt instantly calming, and it was the perfect refuge from the sticky summer heat.

We took a moment to appreciate the cool air, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to just unpack, relax and admire my new habitat. Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and tropical gardens, the palm tree lined pathways snake past thatched cottages nestled amongst the greenery. In the center of this oasis, a deep blue saltwater pool overlooks the pretty landscaped lawns. We were expecting a paradise, and we definitely got it here.

Looking out across the lake in the early morning light, over a long, lazy breakfast became our favourite way to start the day. Sometimes we sat for over an hour, just drinking coffee, talking and trying all of the dishes on offer that day. Breakfast here was one of my favourites too, with a full hot and cold buffet, and the option to choose freshly cooked eggs, omelette, pancakes or sandwiches. Everything was so fresh and delicious, and I became a little addicted to their specialty breads and banana pancakes.

As for the location, I don’t think we could have picked a better spot. It was the perfect base for us take full advantage of both sides of Ao Nang, from peace and relaxation, to nights out enjoying the crazy atmosphere. The resort is tucked away down a dusty side road, around a 5-10 minute drive away from the beach and it felt so tranquil here in comparison to the crowds and noise along the seafront. The hotel also runs a regular free shuttle service to take you down to the beach throughout the day and evening, and jumping in a tuk-tuk home costs barely a few pounds, so it never felt like we were far from the action, despite its seclusion.

We had such a wonderful stay here, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again if I ever go back to Krabi – I’m not sure anywhere else could ever measure up now! It may have been the most expensive place we stayed, but the beautiful setting, tranquil atmosphere and high level of service made it absolutely worth it.

We all have those saved searches on eBay, patiently waiting and hoping for the notification about the piece that got away. Just before the end of the year, two of my most coveted pieces both appeared on eBay and Vestiaire Collective, and I was faced with a bit of a dilemma. I’d been searching for these pieces for years, and I knew that if I didn’t pounce now it’d be unlikely I’d see either of them again for a long, long time. But buying both, and just before Christmas, was just not going to happen.

I decided on the sensible choice, and chose to treat myself to the Helmut Lang coat of my dreams. I really did need a new coat anyway, and as soon as it arrived I knew I’d made the right choice. When you’ve coveted something for years, it can sometimes be a little disappointing in person, but this was even more perfect. Simple, with a little edge and beautifully cut, it’s effortless in the best possible way. Not to mention how warm and cosy it’s been on these bitter winter days. I forgot how much I missed having a proper coat.

The Christopher Raeburn ‘hare’ bag was obviously not the sensible choice. But I couldn’t help but want it, even though I knew it was a silly purchase. When I found that it was still sitting on eBay in the new year, almost as if it was waiting for me, I took it as a sign. Ok, maybe just an excuse. I know it’s not going to get anywhere near as much use as the coat, but I think sometimes fashion has to be about those fun pieces, and there’s a kind of power in something that makes you smile every time you take it out.
