Insta-Halloween

November 5th 2012 Life

Anyone who knows me will tell you that Halloween is my favourite holiday, I love getting to dress up & make a brand new costume every year, plus it’s also one of my oldest & best friends birthdays too! She had decided to go as Snow White, so of course I couldn’t resist going as my own favourite Disney Princess – Ariel! It was one of the quickest & cheapest costumes I’ve ever made, but I was really pleased with how it turned out, even though it was a massive pain to walk & dance in!

I never usually post these type of things as I prefer to keep the blog free of the more personal stuff like this, but there were so many brilliant costumes I just had to share them & thought it would be a nice change to my usual Monday outfit post too. I bet most of you have never seen me in so much colour! I swear, everyone else seems to go dark & moody for Halloween, but I do the total opposite because I’m dark & moody anyway!

My favourite costumes of the night were a draw between Pop Art Superwoman (how awesome does Sarah’s makeup look?!), Sam as a bunch of grapes (because I couldn’t stop laughing!) & Mr Motivator (though I think only the British readers will know who that is!)

Who’s was your favourite?

Happy Birthday FAIIINT + Dream Black Dress Giveaway!

November 2nd 2012 Giveaway

FAIIINT, Dream Black Dress, Giveaway, Fashion, Blogger, Competition,

Yesterday was FAIIINT’s 1st birthday! I can’t actually believe I’ve been doing this for an entire year already, it’s come around so quickly, but I’ve loved every minute of it & have been given some amazing opportunities I’d never have dreamed & met some awesome people too, all thanks to this blog. The biggest thanks however needs to go to all of you guys who keep coming back to read it & make my day with your lovely comments!

As a way to thank you all, I thought it would be the perfect excuse to hold my first giveaway!

I wanted to do a giveaway that everyone would really love to win, so I thought what better than to do a personalized one! The winner will get to design their dream black dress, which I will then custom make for them, to their measurements & in their choice of fabrics. I’ll be on hand to offer advice or help in the design process, but ultimately it’ll be down to you. The result will be a total one-off, made from beautiful fabrics & custom fit to you’re exact measurements.

The Rules :

  • ✚ The dress must be predominantly black. It’s kinda my thing, so I’m sticking to it! You are allowed to include a little colour if you wish though. It also must be a dress!
  • ✚ I will not make you a copy of a designer or high street dress you like. If you want a copy of one of my own designs, that’s fine, but I’m not knocking off others work.
  • ✚ The winner will be picked totally at random & this is not a contest, so don’t feel you have to come up with some over-the-top amazing dress. If your dream dress is just a plain, perfectly fitted shift dress, that’s fine!

How To Enter…

Follow this blog on Bloglovin’ & leave a comment below with a brief description of your dream dress! It only has to be a rough idea, don’t worry about the little details!

For Extra Entries :

  • ✚ Follow me on Twitter
  • ✚ Tweet about this giveaway by clicking here (or write your own including a link to this post & my twitter handle)
  • ✚ Like the page on Facebook
  • ✚ Share this post on Facebook – here

( Please note in your comment if you have any extra entries! )

The giveaway is open internationally & anyone can enter. I know the blog is mostly read by girls, but guys, I don’t want to leave you out, so feel free to enter & if you win we’ll discuss a menswear alternative!

The winner will be picked at random on the 30th November & announced here later that day. Good luck!

PS: You can view previous examples of clothing I’ve made & worn on the blog by clicking on the ‘Made‘ category!

Giveaway is now closed! Thanks for all your entries!

Autumn Leaves

FAIIINT Cropped Jacket / Topshop Textured Dress / COS Belt / H&M Choker / Topshop Wedges / Balenciaga City

Its been a while since I’ve been shopping & had something catch my eye & just instantly knew I needed it in my life. This Topshop dress did just that though, the pleated texture, structured shape of the full skirt & perfectly fitting bodice, I pretty much ran to the changing rooms with it!

This happens to me quite often with shoes though… I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anymore that weren’t autumn appropriate this year, but then I came across these in the sale & I couldn’t resist them. I love the chunky, nude leather covered wedge, neutral colour blocking & the minimalistic look they have. The fact they’re not entirely black & were in the sale seemed like a good enough justification to buy them in my head, despite the fact I’m actually running out of space to keep anymore pairs. They’re now slowly taking over my window ledge & my desk, but I still keep buying them & can’t bring myself to part with the older pairs either. I really should get some listed on eBay, but I’m far too sentimental about them.

The jacket is another of the pieces from my degree that I’m trying to wear more. You may have seen it previously here with it’s removable faux-fur collar attached. I enjoyed seeing this go from paper to a real life garment, mostly because I learnt a lot in the process, there are so many things I would do differently if I were to make this again. Many of them seem obvious now, like adding a thicker interfacing to the lapels to help the leather hold a better shape & not attempting to do intricate patterns of stitching on a home machine that doesn’t like sewing leather! Sometimes these little imperfections make something all the more special though, I was pretty proud considering it was only my second attempt at a properly tailored jacket. I really have the urge to make another though, knowing what I do now & as a more polished & perfect version.
