Last Sunday we went down to the Southbank Center for the 2013 Vogue Festival, we got there a little early & so decided to kill some time by taking some super touristy outfit shots. It seemed like it would have been a shame to not use the beautiful backdrop of the Southbank whilst we were there, even if we did have to fight for a spot amongst all the other tourists.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this dress. I’m not much of a print person, so I never usually like to buy different items with the same print, but I loved both this & the leggings I featured few weeks ago so much that I had to get them both. Well, the H. R. Giger inspired print was just too me to pass up & I think the alien influence is even more apparent on the dress. I love the way the pleats curve in around the waist, it’s super flattering & it’s so 3D looking it’s hard to believe that it’s just a print. I was stopped so many times by people asking for photos of it whilst I was walking around, it’s definitely an attention grabber. You can just see a glimpse of my vintage black diamond earrings here too, I don’t have many pairs, as you rarely see them underneath all of my hair, but these are easily my favourites.

Now the weathers finally getting a bit warmer I’m able to wear my draped leather jacket more often too. Those of you that follow me on Twitter & Instagram will see that I’ve just brought a vintage sewing machine (she’s now called Agyness by the way!), so I’m hoping to re-make a more perfect version of this jacket soon. I’m thinking of maybe doing a suede version too, as I do wear it an awful lot & it would be nice to have a few of them, especially now I have a machine capable of sewing them up!

Ever since I heard Georgia Hardinge would be creating a collection for River Island’s Design Forum I’ve been desperate to get my hands on a few pieces. I then saw the short film released during London Fashion Week & learned that the capsule collection of 14 pieces was inspired by H.R. Gigers paintings & sculptures. I don’t usually do print, but being the huge sci-fi nerd that you all know I am & the fact the prints reminded me of the Xenomorphs from the Alien series (one of Gigers creations) had me sold immediately!

I finally bagged these leggings & also the t-shirt dress in the same print, I wanted to get the pale grey pleated neoprene dress too, but talked myself out of it, knowing I wouldn’t get much wear from it with it being so pristinely pale & me being so messy! Practicality is a huge aspect of why I wear mostly black.

I kept the rest of the look simple, pairing them with my favourite, worn to death Todd Lynn for Topshop tux & my handmade skirt. I’m wearing this skirt more & more recently, the little details like the notches make all the difference to an otherwise plain skirt & the stretch twill I made it from is the most lovely fabric, I really need to buy some more & make a few more things with it!

Maxi / Outfit

After having just spent a small fortune on a sale haul from ASOS I really shouldn’t have spent any more, but when I saw this maxi dress I couldn’t help but make another order. You know when you see something & it is just so you, it could have been made for you? This was one of those pieces, I couldn’t say no to it. The asymmetric midi/maxi hem, the contrasting jersey/crepe panels that give it a little stiffness & that beautiful flared shape & the top half is a t-shirt too, total perfection.

My cropped leather jacket from my degree collection (are you sick of seeing this yet?!) was the perfect compliment to the long lengths, I love playing with proportions, especially when wearing maxi lengths. Everytime I wear this I remind myself I need buy some more leather & make a better (less rushed) version, but never get around to it. I’m hoping to get my machine fixed in the next few weeks though, as I plan on making some summery dresses & shirts, so hopefully I might get around to it then.

Also, on a side note, I overheard some chavvy kids call me ‘the angel of death’ whilst wearing this, I think because it billows out so much when I walk, and of course all of the black… I’m sure they meant it as an insult, but I definitely spent the rest of the day swooshing around with this in my mind!

Warhol / OUTFIT

Since high school I have been obsessed with Andy Warhol, I would even go as far as to call him my idol, so naturally I’ve been meaning to get my hands on some of the Pepe Jeans x Andy Warhol collaboration for a while now, though I could never find anywhere in the UK to buy it.

Whilst browsing through Zalando a few weeks ago I actually squealed in excitement when I saw they stocked the collection & couldn’t pass up the chance to own this tee! I love the simplicity of the ‘print’, which is actually embroidered on, it reminds me of his scribbled sketches & the quirky detailing such as the bright blue binding inside the neck & hem, raw edges & the baby soft fabric make it feel really special & I can easily imagine it’ll be something I wear to death!

These Finsk wedges are my latest favourite purchase, I brought them from their London sample sale just before Christmas & have been wearing them everywhere since. You all know by now that I’m kind of obsessed with the brand & have quite a collection of them, these are my first pair from their new sister line ‘Skin by Finsk’ though & I love that they’re a bit more understated & ‘everyday’ than the mainline. This is one of my favourite things about the brand, the way they combine style & functionality, they’re like little works of art but are also some of the comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned, even their monster wedges which look like a total nightmare to walk in, are comfortable enough to wear all day!

The jacket is one of my own, it’s not perfect, but it’s the most used of the pieces I made during my degree because it’s pretty much my dream jacket; cropped, buttery leather, draped, subtle anatomical detailing & super versatile. It’s been featured here quite a few times now & my favourite thing about it is that it looks totally different depending if it’s zipped up or not, you can see it done up here. I really need to get around to making a more ‘perfect’ version of it when I get chance…

I wore this Saturday night to go out for drinks, this dress has always been one of my favourites that I made during my degree, it’s such a simple dress, but I think that helps the little details it does have really stand out. It’s yet another piece that was inspired by anatomy, this time I was looking at skeletal deformities & the twisting of bones into unnatural shapes. It has a nude silk jersey under-layer with a black mesh over the top & I just love the way both fabrics drape together around the twisted smocking. I still remember the panic of possibly not getting it finished in time, I made it in such a rush just a few hours before my hand in!

I’m still finding my StylistPick boots to be extremely comfortable & I have to say I’m also finding they work with just about everything I own, so this challenge is proving to be quite a bit easier than expected!

You’ve all heard me raving about this Bracher Emden clutch many times before, but I couldn’t resist a close up of it next to the smocking on the dress, I think they look so beautiful together. I still get so many compliments about this bag, my friends have seen it a lot over the past few months but they still coo over it & stare at it whenever I take it out, shop assistants, waitresses & bar maids too always seem to feel the need to tell me how beautiful it is when it’s sitting on the table or at the counter. I must admit, when I’ve not used it for a while, even I have to stare at it a little when I get it out again, almost like I’d forgotten just how awesome looking it is!

Autumn Leaves / OUTFIT

FAIIINT, Outfit, Jacket, Cropped, Blazer, Leather, Lapel, Collar, Topshop, Dress, Pleated, Textured, Structured, COS, Belt, Balenciaga City, Wedges, Strappy, Platform, Nude, Black, All Black, Autumn, Leaves, Fashion,FAIIINT, Blazer, Jacket, Cropped, Leather, Lapels, Collar, Stitching, Pattern, FAIIINT, Outfit, Detail, Shoes, Wedges, Topshop, Black, Nude, Colour Block, Strappy, Straps, Autumn, Leaves, Platform

Its been a while since I’ve been shopping & had something catch my eye & just instantly knew I needed it in my life. This Topshop dress did just that though, the pleated texture, structured shape of the full skirt & perfectly fitting bodice, I pretty much ran to the changing rooms with it!

This happens to me quite often with shoes though… I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anymore that weren’t autumn appropriate this year, but then I came across these in the sale & I couldn’t resist them. I love the chunky, nude leather covered wedge, neutral colour blocking & the minimalistic look they have. The fact they’re not entirely black & were in the sale seemed like a good enough justification to buy them in my head, despite the fact I’m actually running out of space to keep anymore pairs. They’re now slowly taking over my window ledge & my desk, but I still keep buying them & can’t bring myself to part with the older pairs either. I really should get some listed on eBay, but I’m far too sentimental about them.

The jacket is another of the pieces from my degree that I’m trying to wear more. You may have seen it previously here with it’s removable faux-fur collar attached. I enjoyed seeing this go from paper to a real life garment, mostly because I learnt a lot in the process, there are so many things I would do differently if I were to make this again. Many of them seem obvious now, like adding a thicker interfacing to the lapels to help the leather hold a better shape & not attempting to do intricate patterns of stitching on a home machine that doesn’t like sewing leather! Sometimes these little imperfections make something all the more special though, I was pretty proud considering it was only my second attempt at a properly tailored jacket. I really have the urge to make another though, knowing what I do now & as a more polished & perfect version.

I’ve been sorting through all of my degree work in the attic over the past week & have come across all sorts of things I had forgotten I’d made! I kept everything in garment bags totally pristine, just incase I needed them again for something, then it dawned on me that having been graduated for over a year, I’m not likely to need them again! I’ve hung all the pieces that fit me in my closet, so I’ll hopefully get some wear out of them, I hate the thought of them just collecting dust in the attic, especially now I no longer need to be so precious about them!

I’ve worn the skirt a few times before, but this is my first time wearing the shirt out. I brought this beautiful rustic looking cotton way before I knew what I was going to use it for, I just fell in love with it & had to buy a few meters. It is so thin & soft, it has that kind of worn look to it that I am so fond of & gives the shirt a real loveworn look with the way it creases so easily. I know a lot of people this would bother, but I’m not really a fan of stiff, perfectly ironed shirts & I hate ironing! I quite like it all creased, I think it adds a little character to it & stops it looking too harsh with the graphic cut outs. I hated this shirt for a long time because the little triangle cutouts caused me so much stress when making it, but I’m starting to love it again now & can see myself wearing it a lot more.

The skirt even though it’s quite plain & simple is one of my favourite things I’ve made, purely because it’s so practical. I love highwaisted skirts, but I also have a long torso & it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll be short to the point of flashing my cheeks because of this! I don’t want that, so I made this skirt the perfect length to still be a mini, but also keep everything covered! The notches & panels with diagonal stitching down the sides add a subtle bit of interest, keeping it from being just another boring black skirt.

I’m still in love with all things rose gold & this gorgeous, classic looking watch from Daniel Wellington is my latest edition. I love men’s watches & I have a real soft spot for ones with leather straps, so I knew I’d get plenty of wear out of this one. I love how slim the casing is & how minimal & unfussy it looks, it gives it a real elegance & means it goes with absolutely everything too.
