Jeremy Geddes

Anyone who knows me will know I’m a massive Sci-Fi nerd, I’m also a huge fan of Surrealism, so when I came across the work of Jeremy Geddes it was no surprise I adored it.

His photo-realistic style combined with the surrealist elements of the paintings produces dreamy, melancholic, but also quite unsettling images. The astronaut crashing onto the road of an empty street is eerie, yet the soft colours, hazy light & the inclusion of the lone dove give it such beauty too. This seems to run throughout the core of most of his work, giving even the pieces with a much darker subject matter a certain kind of elegance.

Even though I would call the paintings photo-realistic, they also have a softness to them, almost like the kind of reality you see when your dreaming. I also love that they still retain that painterly look, despite the realism, it’s very obvious after looking at them for a few seconds they’re paintings, unlike a lot of photo-realistic work which is very hard to distinguish from a photograph. It reminds me a little of the way the old masters did realism.

My favourites are of course his ‘Cosmonaut’ paintings, for which he has become known, but it would be a shame to not include some of his other pieces too, which are just as gorgeous & I think really show off his outstanding talent in the exquisite faces of the subjects he paints.

I’ve been sorting through all of my degree work in the attic over the past week & have come across all sorts of things I had forgotten I’d made! I kept everything in garment bags totally pristine, just incase I needed them again for something, then it dawned on me that having been graduated for over a year, I’m not likely to need them again! I’ve hung all the pieces that fit me in my closet, so I’ll hopefully get some wear out of them, I hate the thought of them just collecting dust in the attic, especially now I no longer need to be so precious about them!

I’ve worn the skirt a few times before, but this is my first time wearing the shirt out. I brought this beautiful rustic looking cotton way before I knew what I was going to use it for, I just fell in love with it & had to buy a few meters. It is so thin & soft, it has that kind of worn look to it that I am so fond of & gives the shirt a real loveworn look with the way it creases so easily. I know a lot of people this would bother, but I’m not really a fan of stiff, perfectly ironed shirts & I hate ironing! I quite like it all creased, I think it adds a little character to it & stops it looking too harsh with the graphic cut outs. I hated this shirt for a long time because the little triangle cutouts caused me so much stress when making it, but I’m starting to love it again now & can see myself wearing it a lot more.

The skirt even though it’s quite plain & simple is one of my favourite things I’ve made, purely because it’s so practical. I love highwaisted skirts, but I also have a long torso & it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll be short to the point of flashing my cheeks because of this! I don’t want that, so I made this skirt the perfect length to still be a mini, but also keep everything covered! The notches & panels with diagonal stitching down the sides add a subtle bit of interest, keeping it from being just another boring black skirt.

I’m still in love with all things rose gold & this gorgeous, classic looking watch from Daniel Wellington is my latest edition. I love men’s watches & I have a real soft spot for ones with leather straps, so I knew I’d get plenty of wear out of this one. I love how slim the casing is & how minimal & unfussy it looks, it gives it a real elegance & means it goes with absolutely everything too.

Tattoo Me

Gestuz Double Breasted Blazer / Full Circle Dress / Moxham ‘Egypt’ Necklace / Bebaroque Sailor Tattoo Leggings / Topshop Boutique Boots

The wind seems to be following me around recently, every time we try to get some outfit shots the camera comes out & then suddenly out of nowhere it’s stupidly windy! It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have really watery eyes, in all of the photos apart from this one my face was a scrunched up, squinty mess!

I’ve had these Bebaroque leggings for quite a while now & they’re one of those things I always wonder why I don’t wear more often because they are really attention grabbing & great for adding a bit extra to my usual all black, then I wear them & remember why. I brought them in a medium & really ought to have gotten a small, they get so baggy after wearing them for a while, I kinda like them loose & how they bunch up around the knees, but constantly pulling them up is a major pain. I really need to take them in a little so they fit properly soon. I love the print on them though, the old school sailor tattoo design is pretty yet edgy & they have mermaids on too, what’s not to love about that? I originally wanted the tights version, the print was just down the front instead of all over & looked like actual full leg tattoos, but I never managed to get my hands on a pair before they sold out! I have a few other pairs of their tights & they are hands down my favourite hosiery brand, the designs are so unique, great quality & they’ve lasted a surprisingly long time too, which is rare for me & tights! I’m so looking forward to getting them out again with the return of the cold weather.

The latest addition to my growing Moxham collection is this ‘Egypt’ pendant, I’d wanted this for a while but couldn’t decide between the black or nude version, then this one went on sale over at BENGT & made my mind up for me! I love how all of the pieces are the perfect mixture of tough & delicate & they’re real statement pieces too. They’re fast becoming one of my favourite jewellery brands, I’ve already added a few more pieces to my Christmas wish list!
