I’m developing quite the collection of ‘alien’ inspired pieces lately, leggings especially, but I couldn’t resist adding this killer pair from Evil Twin to the collection too, with their glossy, xenomorph-like ribbed panels. You all know by now that I’m a huge sci-fi nerd & I can never resist items of clothing that remind me in a subtle way of my favourite movies, games or characters. Alien is easily one of my all time favourites, combining my love of horror, sci-fi, a kickass heroine & the incredible art of HR Giger too. Plus, I mean, what girl wouldn’t want to be Ripley?! I think I may have been subconsciously channeling her a little bit here, with the biker jacket & stompy boots. Perfect Halloween non-costume I think!

I feel like I shouldn’t say this, as no doubt I will be moaning about the weather again very soon, but I’m secretly quite glad it’s turned bitterly cold. It means I can dig out some of my favourite pieces, the big coats & heavy sweaters, and of course the best winter accessory – the (faux) fur snood. I’ve been making myself a few in different colours this past week, and I’m not sure why I didn’t make a black one sooner! Kind of a duh moment there… I have a feeling this isn’t going to be leaving my neck for quite sometime!

Also, today is actually FAIIINT’s 2nd birthday! Crazy to think I have been doing this for two years now, it feels like less than one! There shall be a nice giveaway on Monday to celebrate properly, so keep an eye out for that!

Win…

Urban Outfitters & Evil Twin are giving away two tickets to see BANKS at her debut London show (if you haven’t heard of her, seriously you need to go check her out!) + an overnight stay in London for 2 people & £250 to blow on Evil Twin at Urban Outfitters too!

This is UK only, and closes on 4th November, so go enter quick! HERE.

Simplicity

October 30th 2013 Covet

FAIIINT Simplicty wishlist - Warehouse Cami, Choies clean slim coat, Kurt Geiger Boots, H&M drape cardigan, Teals Boutique leather laptop bag, Zara asymmetric skirt, Whistles ring, Maria Francesca Pepe spike bangle. All black, minimal, clean, sharp, simple.

Since clearing my wardrobe out recently I’ve been trying to make a real effort to only buy classic, staple pieces that I know I will still be wearing for years to come & it’s lead to me buying an awful lot of very minimal, simple items. Those type of pieces that never seem to date & always look so fresh and modern. I know I’m saying this a lot recently, but it’s true, the older I get the more I’m starting to favour a more paired back way of dressing. Practical items like this beautiful leather laptop bag & more comfortable shoes too, as I find myself buying ever more mid height heels, instead of the skyscrapers I spent my student loan on a few years ago. This pair from Kurt Geiger are my current obsession, they couldn’t be more perfect everyday boots – nice height, chunky heels, classic & with that lovely thick stitching & pull tab to the back.

I usually prefer coats with all kinds of buttons & zips, bikers & trenches, but this super clean one really caught my eye whilst I was browsing Choies. I’m not sure if it’s a little too severe for me, but I think it would be perfect with a drapey cardigan poking out underneath, or over a silk camisole or skirt to contrast against the starkness & make it a little softer.

Another thing I’ve been cutting back on is jewellery, I haven’t been wearing much at all recently, and haven’t brought any in the longest time either. Slowly I’m starting to covet a few select pieces again though. I love how the Whistles ring & Maria Francesca Pepe‘s bangle are dainty, unfussy & yet still interesting enough to make an impact.

It feels like it’s officially turned to winter, the clocks have gone back for daylight savings & it’s now pitch black by 5:30pm. A little depressing, but I actually love this time of year. Wrapping up, frosty mornings, hot comfort food & curling up by the fire. It’s definitely the worst time to be a fashion blogger though, when there are barely a few hours of daylight left at the end of the day to shoot in. Despite this, I love the way the lighting turned out in these photos, everything just looks so much nicer during the twilight hours.

My obsession for shirt dresses is showing no signs of disappearing just yet, and this newest addition to my collection from Pussycat has been worn to death already. I love messy, crinkly pleats like this and yet I don’t really own many pleated pieces at all, so I’ve been enjoying playing around with this new texture. Paired with my trusty Minkpink biker, I feel a little like a more grownup version of myself as a schoolgirl here, with my pleated skirt, shirt & heavy wool coat. All I’m missing is a thick, baggy jumper!
