Ethereal Grunge

November 16th 2011 Covet

I’ve always been a fan of Pamela Love‘s jewellery, the bones, skulls, claws & five-point stars appeal to my darker nature, and even though they have been done to death by now by various other designers & stores, I think they will always be part of my day to day decoration.

The A/W 2011 collection may be my favourite to date though, the pieces are lust-worthy as usual, I’m already finding myself thinking of ways to afford a stack of those crystal bangles, but for me, it’s really the whole styling of the lookbook that makes it so perfect. Skye Parrott‘s dreamy photography & the grungy styling leave me daydreaming about lazy summer afternoons when I didn’t have a care in the world, it makes me wanna bleach my hair & tie-dye my tees, be 16 again. There’s the usual signature type pieces, but it’s the crystal & the tribal looking spiked pieces that I’m really craving…

Draped Leather Jacket

FAIIINT Draped Leather Jacket / All Saints Dress / Mixed Bangles

This jacket was supposed to be a sort of tester, I’ve never made a jacket out of leather before & I knew there would be some mistakes that wouldn’t become apparent in the toile, as leather behaves so differently to any other material, so I brought the cheapest skins I could find, covered in scuffs & holes, with the intention of then making myself a nicer one, in more expensive leather afterwards.

Despite there being a few kinks that needed working out, such as the fact the sleeves shrunk to an awkward length & some things I would do differently now I know better, I love it enough, flaws & all, to wear this as the finished piece. I feel surprisingly proud of it, considering it was a first attempt & I expected it to end up a misshapen mess! I also ended up falling for the cheap, battered charcoal leather, it is so paper-thin, soft & slouchy that it worked perfectly & produced such a nice drape to the front. I should have known really, I’m a sucker for worn in, battered looking things. I still want to make a better quality version, with all the kinks worked out at some point, possibly in a dirty taupe or nude, but I think I’ll still keep this also, I feel strangely attached to it now.

Rick Owens Wedges

November 12th 2011 Covet

Rick Owens, Black, Wedges, Fur, Cut outs

I have craved a pair of Rick Owens wedges for so long, so it’s no surprise that when these popped up on Ebay, in my size, from a reputable seller, for a hell of a lot less than a new pair, I had to have them. They were samples, without box & the soles are pretty worn, but I always chuck the boxes & I was gonna wear the soles down myself eventually, so this doesn’t matter to me, I prefer things like this a little worn anyway, so I’m not so precious about them.

Despite the fact I cannot zip them all the way closed, due to my fat ankles (an unfortunate combination of, low blood pressure / bad circulation / cankle genes), they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I think I own & they look fine slightly unzipped. I’ve been wearing them out at every opportunity, they have even been worn for dog walking & to a few gigs, my feet are appreciating the comfort & I think they will look even better once they’re a little battered!
