I’ve spent the last week or so buried under fabric samples trying to decide on the final fabrics for the new jersey pieces for the store, so sorry for my little disappearing act recently. I’ll be able to show you guys the new pieces come October!

With the start of September I’ve been mentally making lists of pieces I need, or just want, for the coming seasons. The only problem now is that after a cold week where I was sure summer had come to an end, this week the sun is out again, the temperature is picking up & it’s too warm again to wear half of the new things I’ve brought! You can never win with our annoying British weather!

Lately H&M have really been impressing me with their clothing, both the draped dress & the asymmetric shirt are from there & are very reasonably priced. I’m waiting on my parcel containing both, so I’m hoping the fabrics are of an acceptable quality (I usually find H&M pretty decent for fabrics considering the cheap prices) & I’ll be able to show you them soon. I’ve also been wearing, and buying a lot more jewellery lately & the Giles Deacon thorn ring is my latest addition. I couldn’t pass it up so heavily discounted at ASOS though, it was £8 & just as beautiful in person – there are still a few left too!

We are definitely moving into Autumn here now, I’m sad that it’s getting colder & greyer by the day, but happy to be able to dig out my cardigans, knits & jackets again and layer them all up to my hearts content.

I last week I was asked by Yumi to style one of their new pieces from the Autumn/Winter collection, which MTV presenter Lilah Parsons is the face of. I’m not usually the greatest fan of prints, which they are known for, but as soon as I saw this constellation print dress I agreed. I’m a huge space nerd as you know & I love nothing more than sitting outside on a clear night, looking up & picking out the constellations or checking out planets, nebulas & galaxies through my telescope. The print is subtle enough to easily blend in with the rest of my wardrobe, and I love that at first glance it’s quite abstract, it looks like one of my dresses that I paint in, covered in random splatters. It’s nice to have the occasional few pieces that are a little more fun & really make you smile when you pull them out.

When it’s warmer I hate to be wearing anything too fussy, I like to just throw on a super simple, basic piece & then add a few nice accessories to keep things interesting. I will forever love a good pair of sunglasses, like my wayfarers from Pret A Voir, for their magical ability to effortlessly inject a little cool into just about any outfit.

This dress is a great example of this, it couldn’t be plainer (I mean it’s almost office wear appropriate!) but I think with the shades, raw quartz necklace & peek of bra strap it feels much more casual & lived in. I must admit, usually messy bra straps sticking out are one of my biggest hates, and you’ll often find me wearing a strapless bra or just not wearing one at all to combat this, but now & then when it looks intentional & not just sloppy I think it can add a nice little detail, like it does here.
