Last week I was asked by John Lewis to style a few pieces from their Sports Luxe edit in my own way. I wouldn’t usually say sporty looks are my thing, but I love the challenge of mixing things up a little whilst still staying true to my own style, often finding new styles, shapes & pieces to love in the process. Besides, the edit is much more focused on the luxe side of things mixing relaxed, sports inspired silhouettes and details with beautiful fabrics & geometric paneling, and that is definitely my kinda thing!

I was immediately drawn to this gorgeous silk crepe skirt, the fitted shape & the stripe of a zip running all the way down give the slightest hint at the trend, without being too obvious and I knew it would work perfectly with this paneled cami that’s been sitting unworn in my wardrobe for weeks now.

I did consider a backpack or trainers to go with this, to make it a little more sporty, but decided that for me it would have been overkill & went with a more subtle take on it. I chose this buttery leather tote instead, a luxe take on a super practical item, it’s been getting a lot of use recently & to be honest, I’m not quite sure how I lived without it!

One downfall of having a wardrobe crammed with only black is that often pieces get kind of lost in there, all merging into one mass of black fabric. This Topshop skirt is a prime example, I brought it months ago & it’s only just seeing the light of day again now. It had been hiding, tags still attached until I went to get another skirt & it fell out of my wardrobe, leaving me perplexed as to how I’d forgotten about such a great piece. Texture is my go-to for keeping all black looks interesting & I also have a bit of a soft spot for scales, I couldn’t get this to the checkout fast enough with this, so I feel extra guilty for forgetting about it!

It’s been a while since I’ve worn so much jewellery in one go, but I’ve really been enjoying layering up necklaces recently, and this Cinderela B one I made myself at their workshop just before Christmas last year makes it super easy. I tend to go through phases with jewellery, not wanting to wear a single piece, to wearing sole delicate pieces & then buying lots and wanting to pile it all on at once. I feel like I’m getting to that point where you’ll see lots of new pieces popping up!

Walking

I mentioned a week or so ago that Alex from Barkarama had asked if I would do a walking style post for her on what I wear to walk Nico, and how to stay stylish but comfortable whilst doing it. Of course I said yes, I love any excuse to get Nico in on outfit photos, or opportunity to talk about him & he loves getting involved too, because it means extra treats & fuss for sitting nicely for the photos!

This is a pretty standard dog walk outfit for me and of course comfort & practicality come first, there’s no point looking amazing if you’re sacrificing your enjoyment of the walk to do so. However, I’m not the type of person who would ever feel comfortable going out in something super casual, or scruffy looking, not even for a dog walk! I tend to stick to tried & tested favourites that combine both of these things with a little style too – skinny jeans, my trusty beaten up leather Converse & my favourite Belstaff jacket, which could give even the most boring outfit an air of cool. As I mentioned to Alex, I think my wardrobe of black really helps here too, because the monochrome palette gives everything, even very casual outfits a smarter, more put together fashion edge.

For more photos & to read the full post head over to Barkarama!
