William Tempest for River Island Sequin Shirt Dress / Moxham Anubis Necklace / Topshop Premium Boots

A few weeks ago I was invited down to SNAP Studios in London to take part in More Magazine’s ‘How Would You Wear…’ feature, in which 5 girls each have to style the same item with only pieces from their own wardrobes. This week the issue finally come out & so I thought I’d share it & a few behind the scenes images we took too.

Firstly, the item we were challenged to style was this beautiful William Tempest for River Island shirt dress, I didn’t want to take it off again! I’ve had my eye on this collaboration since I first heard about it, so it was great to get to see pieces from it in the flesh before it’s release. It’s much nicer quality than I expected, the sequins are very securely stitched on & the chiffon base is light, but with a nice weight too & nowhere near as see through as the photos make it look! I decided to keep it simple & let the dress really shine, as the 3 girls who had already been had made it quite casual & dressed down.

I was told before we got there that the editor liked ‘huge toothy smiles’ for the feature & this absolutely terrified me! I’m not much of a smiler & I hate smiling with teeth, so I was super nervous when it came to my turn. I shouldn’t have worried though, the team were really lovely & helped me feel much less awkward about it all, we had a good laugh about them having to force a huge smile out of me! I did feel a little bad for them, I tried so many times to just get away with ‘little smiles’ & it must have been like trying to squeeze blood from a stone getting this huge smile out of me! I always find it funny how people are surprised about how shy I am in front of a camera, I guess they expect that someone who takes photos of themselves in the middle of the street & then posts them on the internet would be super confident, but that’s not the case at all! I don’t think I’m the only one like this either?

I also had the chance to meet the lovely Robyn who was there too, shooting a jeans look for the issue before this one. It’s always so nice to get to meet other bloggers at things like this & it was great to have a good chat with her & hear that she also shared my nerves about putting on a huge smile for the camera!

The photo used is not one I’d personally pick of myself, but that’s purely because I’m not used to the big smile, I always feel I look a little creepy when I smile this huge & I joke that this is my ‘serial killer’ smile because of that! Either way though, I always think it’s important to do things outside of your comfort zone & I’m glad I went along as it turned out to be a really fun experience.

Dream Winter Wishlist

Lanvin Maxi Skirt / Helmut Lang Pleated Leather & Wool Jacket / Joomi Lim Stackable Rings / YSL ‘Madge’ Boots

If I were to win the lottery tonight, this is what I’d be buying, every last bit. I spend way too much time making these fantasy wishlists, just incase I happen to become filthy rich overnight, but I also use them as a sort of marker when it comes to sale shopping. If something is on one of my seasonal lists & gets reduced massively, even if it’s still a bit of a splurge, I’ll allow myself to buy it. My reasoning is that I loved it enough to put it on the list, so I’m clearly not just buying it because I’m being suckered in by the 80% off tag, even though I know it’s something I’ll never actually wear!

Talking of sales, I’m getting obsessed with the ‘Style Steals‘ section on Matches, a permanent section of the site with pieces at upto 80% off. The Sportmax sweater is top of my list at the moment, I love the oily, beetle- like iridescence & the fact it’s half price makes it hard to pass up. The Lanvin skirt is the maxi of my dreams, but it’s still massively out of my price range despite the huge savings, I’m inspired to try & make a DIY version though, so keep an eye out for that!

I’m not usually a coat person, I prefer to stick to my trusty jackets & lots of layers, but this Smythe one is seriously tempting me & it’s not even black! It’s just so beautifully cut, the pointed hemline & sharp collar are perfect touches & I love the slight military vibe.

I’ve always said that if I had a nice chunk of money to splurge on something I’d by a Rick Owens leather jacket, but now I’m not so sure after seeing this Givenchy jacket! A traditional biker, but with a snug fit, super nipped in waist, buttery leather & calf hair sleeves, it’s total perfection!

What are you guys coveting this Winter?

ASOS Snood / Todd Lynn for Topshop Cropped Tux / ASOS Oxblood Dress / Topshop Boutique Boots / Falke Socks / Balenciaga City

I’ve been getting steadily obsessed over the last few months with this ‘oxblood’ colour that seems to be everywhere right now. As you can probably guess, I’m not usually one to get all excited over the new ‘it’ colour for the season, but this is different. Even though it’s red, it’s a darker, moodier version. It still feels like a neutral, rather than an actual colour & it fits in with my almost all black wardrobe perfectly.

When I saw this dress on ASOS in the perfect shade, I knew I needed to buy it. It’s perfect for this time of year too, in heavy jersey, with a midi length & long sleeves it’s lovely & warm, the full skirt makes me feel so autumnal swishing around in the breeze too. I’m so glad to be able to get my snoods out again as well, simple layering like this is why I love autumn so much.

I mentioned previously how much I loved my tuxedo from the Todd Lynn for Topshop collaboration, well this is the other tux I managed to buy at the time. Again, it is beautifully constructed in gorgeous wool suiting (just as a good tux should be!) & the perfect structured, boxy shape too. The way it’s cropped right under the bust & the asymmetric faux fur lapels are what really make this jacket for me, it’s quirky, but in an understated, elegant kind of way. It must be one of my most worn jackets, I love throwing it on & feeling instantly sharper, and if it were to ever get ruined I would happily spend three times it’s original selling price for another one on eBay!
