I don’t think I’ve owned a pair of Adidas since I was at school, but with the arrival of these Gazelle’s I’m starting to wonder why not. I’ve stuck to my chunky Nike’s, Supra’s & classic Converse for years now, I’ll always be a high top girl at heart, but lately I’ve been drawn to proper trainers again like these. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s just from seeing them everywhere lately. I love how they have a kind of smartness about them, when I put on my usual sneakers I instantly feel super casual & dressed down no matter what I’m wearing, but these don’t, they add a nice sporty edge & give that put together off duty kind of vibe.

That’s pretty much a godsend when you need to go into town & run lots of errands but have been awake sewing until the early hours, look like death & would rather not look a total slob just incase you bump into someone, and you always do when you feel a mess! No amount of concealer is hiding my dark circles lately, but I’m incredibly happy to be so busy when it’s because you guys have been buying the jersey pieces like crazy! Thankyou all for being super patient with me as I work my way through all the orders, it is just me, and I’ve been sewing all day & night to get them out to you as quickly as possible.

If you’d like to get your hands on a pair of Gazelle’s too, Mainline Menswear are currently running a competition to win a years supply of Adidas trainers, that’s one pair of your choice every month! It’s super simple too, all you have to do is fill in your name & email to be in with a chance of winning, it’s running worldwide & you have until the 15th March to enter.

Diane Pernet Fragrances

March 4th 2015 Beauty

FAIIINT Diane Pernet Fragrances at Liberty London perfume samples Shaded, Wanted, To Be Honest & In Pursuit of Magic.FAIIINT Diane Pernet Fragrances at Liberty London perfume samples Shaded, Wanted, To Be Honest & In Pursuit of Magic.

Diane Pernet Fragrances exclusive to Liberty

I have long been a reader of Diane Pernet’s blog A Shaded View On Fashion, so I’ve been looking forward to the launch of her new range of perfumes for quite a while now. After getting my hands on some samples to test out, I’m happy to be able to say they are as wonderful as I imagined they would be. Though, I would expect no less from someone with such well refined taste & distinctive sense of style.

I never usually like to just copy out press release info, but the descriptions sum each of the scents up perfectly & are so beautifully written that I had to share –

TO BE HONEST
Time to confess. Be bold. Brave. And utterly reckless.

To be honest captures the experience of stumbling upon an ancient church while walking through the woods. The green and woody fragrance follows you inside. Candles burn silently, their lights still flickering. A waft of incense lingers high above the altar as if the congregation has just vanished. There are notes of myrrh, black pepper, cedar wood, patchouli, vetiver and amber.

WANTED
Yearn. Crave. Worship me. But leave me breathless.

Wanted is reminiscent of an oriental garden as the mist rolls in. Slightly dishevelled and overgrown, moss clings to stone statues obscured by twisting trees and shrubs. Bursts of exotic scents are elevated by a delicate cloud of steam. There are notes of clove, juniper, leather and nutmeg with a little musk accord in the air.

IN PURSUIT OF MAGIC
Beyond convention. In another dimension. Spellbound.

In Pursuit of Magic makes you feel as if you’ve entered a familiar yet parallel world. Standing atop a hillside temple, time is lost in a moment of sensory overload. The refreshing citrus air simultaneously invigorates and purifies you. Tart, clean, intense, restored and protected.

SHADED
Lose yourself. Infinitely. Intimately. Into the darkness.

Shaded evokes a nocturnal bath in the sea. The salt on your skin, a subtle incense and new-found sensations await a secret lover’s encounter. Lightly caressed in the ocean mist, every feeling is shaded by an intense plume of vetiver and surrounded by the deepest touch of musk and guiac wood.

I found it hard to pick a favourite, as I fell in love with all but one of them instantly. They are all unisex, deeply layered & linger on the skin, seeming to evolve throughout the day, as you get a trace of something new each time you find yourself noticing the scent. After trying each of them out for a few days I settled on Shaded as my favourite, to me it smells of warmth, it’s comforting and sensual, and there’s a lovely contrast between the salt, smokey wood & a certain underlying sweetness. Whenever I wore this one I had people asking what I was wearing as I wafted by, it’s a unique, distinctive scent and perfect if you like your fragrances to feel personal & memorable. I like to keep my perfume selection very curated & small, I stick to the same ones like a signature, but this one is so special that I’ll definitely be adding it to my collection.

Minimal, simple, classic low top sneakers trainers in black & pale grey lizard textured suede with chunky white rubber soles.

Last month me & Tara headed down to the the gorgeous Westbury Hotel to check out the PLFM press day. We were invited along by Fred’s Shoes, who we’d been introduced to as a brand at Pure London last year & I fell totally in love with their sneakers, which are launching very soon & I can’t wait to show you in an outfit post!

We’d both had a pretty hectic morning with missed trains, delayed tubes & no time to eat, so when we finally arrived and spotted the tea & biscuits we couldn’t grab ourselves a cup quicker! We were both looking forward to meeting Vic, Fred’s creator & designer, and as we were sat hungrily stuffing our faces she spotted us & came over to say hi. It’s always so nice to finally meet people in person who you’ve been emailing backwards & forwards for a while, and Vic was just as lovely as I expected. We thought we’d be there for about an hour or so, but we got on so well immediately with Vic that we spent hours chatting about pretty much everything – from what Fred’s is all about to her experiences as a designer, sewing machines and even travel, music & movies! We completely lost track of time, like we’d just had a good catch up with an old friend.

Fred’s started with the classic brogue, in beautifully soft leathers of all kinds of colours, and these epitomise what Fred’s is all about – classic shapes made from high quality materials that are simple, fuss free, comfortable & something you can wear year after year. I must admit, I’m still not sure if I could pull a brogue off (definitely not as well as Brogue Queen Tara anyway!) they feel a bit too prim for me maybe? I’m very swayed by the new versions with the heavy tread soles though, giving them a nice toughness, I’ll always love a shoe I feel like I can stomp around in! They come in a great selection of materials too, my favourites were the lizard textured black ones with cream sole & the glossy metallic oxblood ones, I expected these to be quite stiff as is usual with patent leathers, but they were so supple & buttery soft, if I wasn’t already in love, I definitely was now! I also loved the spotted ponyhair ones, I’m not usually a spot kinda person but then I can never say no to ponyhair!

I was pleased to see even more sneaker varieties this time too, including my all time favourite kind – high tops! These came with a nice chunky rubber sole, lightly padded around the ankle & in lots of great leathers, my personal favourites were the washed black pair. The nice thing about these sneakers is the super minimal design with no fussy logos or features, but with plenty of subtle little details, like the waxed laces, rectangular lace holes and shaped tongue. They’re beautifully made, and comfy as hell, I can’t wait to start a little collection!
