Launch of Artist of Makeup by Zukreat at Femi Health & Beauty Leicester

Last week Femi Health & Beauty held a small launch at their beautiful city centre salon to celebrate the arrival of Youtube sensation Zukreat’s Artist of Makeup range of cosmetics, being the first and only retailer in the whole of the UK to stock the line. Outside of the salon you can buy all of the products online, however it’s always nice to be able to swatch in person before committing to a purchase, especially with things like foundations and concealers.

A handful of press and local bloggers were invited for a preview before the salon opened to the public when everyone got the first chance to see and sample the products and for a meet & greet with Zukreat. The queue was huge, with lots of girls saying how excited they were to have the brand stocked here, so I imagine it’ll be a huge success. We were treated to canapés from Hotel Maiyango, and some of the most delicious macarons I’ve ever tasted from Macarons and More whilst we all chatted amongst ourselves. We then headed into the conservatory where Zukreat gave us a demonstration of the products, doing a full look on one of the beautiful Femi girls, showing us how best to use each product and explaining the formulas and backgrounds of each one as she went along. I was amazed by how quickly she did a full, super polished look and I definitely picked up a few tips and tricks myself.

The products themselves are an absolute dream, everything is very high quality and they are super pigmented and blend-able making them lovely to work with. We were kindly given a Contour Stick, Art Liner & Eye Shadow Palette to try for ourselves and I have raved about each one to my friends and family since, especially the Art Liner with its jet black formula and ingenious refill cartridges. I have been a lifelong liquid foundation user but I’m also very tempted to try the cream foundations now after seeing how glowy and natural it looked when she demonstrated them to us, doesn’t it make her skin look so luminous and incredible?

We were also given a full tour of the salon, Femi is one of Leicester’s premier salons having won a host of awards for it’s services and excellence over the years. They offer everything from facials, massages and hair removal to tanning, nail treatments and full makeup packages. The salon is so bright and airy throughout, with a huge variety of different rooms to ensure you have the perfect relaxing atmosphere for your treatment. After eyeing up all of the Femi girls perfect brows pretty much the whole time I was there, I know where I’ll be going when mine are ready for a reshape!

Emma Brown Hair / Clarendon Park Road, Leicester

Last week I paid a visit to the lovely Emma at Emma Brown Hair for a long overdue tidy up of my hair. I am notoriously bad at keeping up with getting my hair cut, because it’s long, wavy and I wear it kinda scruffy, I never notice it needs cutting until it’s super overgrown and then I always feel a bit guilty admitting it’s been probably 6 months or more since it was last cut! Emma was lovely about it though and instantly knew how to freshen it up and give it a new lease of life.

The salon is situated on Clarendon Park Road, an area I don’t often find myself venturing over to but it has such a nice selection of shops and a real community spirit, perfect for a wander down if you’re in the area. Emma was telling me she actually grew up here, lots of her family are still nearby and she had always known this is where she’d want her salon. It’s the perfect place for it and the striking grey front really stands out amongst the other businesses. Stepping inside, the salon is beautifully decorated, it feels modern but relaxed and I loved the bright pink and purple accents. It is also one of only a few salons in the city that stocks the wonderful range of products from Aussie brand KEVIN.MURPHY, who take a skincare approach to haircare using the highest quality natural, organic ingredients to weightlessly deliver performance, strength and longevity. They are also all sulphate free, paraben free and cruelty free too. I have become a bit addicted to their ANGEL.WASH & ANGEL.RINSE since trying them out, it leaves my hair feeling so beautifully soft and nourished.

After talking, Emma decided to cut a good few inches off my hair to tidy it up and add in some really blended shorter layers to give it a bit more shape and body to stop it from looking so weighed down. My hair is actually wavy, but with how long it had grown if I left it to dry naturally it was virtually straight from the weight, now with the shorter layers it dries much beachier looking if I just leave it, which I love. As far as I’m concerned, the less time I have to spend styling it the better, so that’s a big plus! It also feels much healthier and in great shape too, which you’ll see when I get some outfit photos up soon. I’d definitely recommend booking an appointment if you’re in the area, your hair will be in great hands with Emma.

Wolf + Sadie x Lykanthea : Restless

Restless : A photographic collaboration by Wolf + Sadie x Lykanthea. Shot by Krist Mort.

Shot in Austria by Krist Mort against the crumbling remains of an old church, ‘Restless’ beautifully captures ambient musician Lakshmi Ramgopal (Lykanthea) draped in slivers of silver from Wolf + Sadie‘s staple ‘Ancestors’ collection. The hazy black and white images hauntingly conjure up a sense of loss and rebirth, of restlessness and tranquillity, and the need for reinvention both women discovered they were craving.

Featured here are the Stark, Lucid and Ula necklaces, along with the Lucid Bangle and the Ibis Finger Duster Ring. All available in both high shine silver and oxidised finishes, I love the unisex nature of these pieces, both masculine and feminine the simple shapes have a visceral, almost tribal, statement about them that seems to tell the story of a rich ancestral history. The Ula necklace and Theurgy ring have both been on my mind for some time now, and will be next on my jewellery hit list when I have reason to treat myself.

I spoke of Lykanthea’s gorgeous solo debut album ‘Migration‘ a little while ago here. I urge you to go listen if you haven’t yet, soft and atmospheric it feels like a different world and it’s become one of my favourites to unwind to.
