NYE Planning

NYE New Years Eve all black outfit wishlist

Topshop Ruffle Playsuit / Chan Luu Moonstone Choker / Warehouse Suede Croc Textured Bag /
JustUnearthed Moonstone Ring / Dune Glitter Star ‘Blue Moon’ Heels / ASOS Sterling Silver Moon & Star Ring

As I’m finally starting to pack my suitcase ready to see in the new year in Thailand, my mind has turned to what I’ll be wearing to do it in. I have a case full of general (black, of course!) holiday clothes, but I hadn’t given a lot of thought over what to wear for the big night. With the heat and humidity I’ll be keeping things as fuss free as possible, relying on simple pieces in loose, airy fabrics.

If NYE isn’t a good enough excuse for a glittery, star covered pair of stilettos then I really dont know what is. Sadly, my baggage allowance and already stuffed suitcase isn’t going to allow me to take a pair of shoes that I’ll only get to wear once. So I guess I’ll need to find another excuse to buy these beauties from Dune instead!

The sale at Topshop has been particularly good this year, and I’ve had my eye on quite a few pieces lately. This ruffled playsuit is top of my list though. Perfect for day or night it’s a great multitasker that will be ideal for packing, and is something I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of back in the UK too. I refuse to buy clothes just for going on holiday, so this is important. I don’t understand why you would spend a lot of money on loads of cheap pieces just to throw them in the attic and then probably do the same all over again next time, it’s so wasteful and kind of ridiculous. That’s why even though I’ve brought myself a few new bits and pieces in the sales, they’re all things I’ll wear in the summer here too. You definitely won’t be seeing any instagram photos of me in white, or summery brights!

I’ve never been the best packer, I’m a ‘maybe I will need this 6th pair of shoes, I better throw them in’ kind of packer. When we booked our flights to Thailand and saw the layover was in Beijing, we thought why not extend it and spend a few nights there too? It was only after we’d spontaneously booked the flights that we realised Beijing is in the dead of winter! With four internal flights once we’re in Thailand and a small baggage allowance, I started to worry how we were going to manage to stuff coats, boots and jumpers into our already full cases.

My plan is thin, light layers and thermals under everything! I brought this jacket from H&M last year, mostly because it was in the sale and ridiculously cheap for a down feather filled jacket. I’ve worn it a handful of times to walk Nico and then I’d kind of forgotten about it, until I realised it would be perfect for this trip. It’s lightweight, warm and snuggly with it’s fluffy down filling and faux fur collar. Plus, it folds down into the tiniest little bundle, perfect for packing.

I always travel in trainers anyway, so it made sense to choose a less rigid pair that would take up the minimal amount of space once packed. The Nike LunarCharge is a mash up of some of Nike’s most popular womens trainers styles including the Air Max 90, Air Current and Air Presto, and I think I love them. The black on black colourway and mixture of different textures is everything I love in a trainer, plus they’re super comfy and springy. I think they’ll serve me well walking through the snowy streets of Beijing!

As much as I love dressing for the winter, doing outfit posts at this time of year is possibly one of my least favourite things. I get to wear some of my all time favourite combinations and yet, when the daylight hours start drawing in at around 3pm, it means it’s kind of a nightmare actually photographing any of them. We finally managed to shoot this hazy, super casual outfit just as the last of the light was disappearing last week.

I mentioned a little while ago in my autumn wish list that I had started looking for a replacement for my favourite, but now falling to bits pom pom beanie. The original was super cheap, but it was better than all of the others I’d seen on the high street with its snug fit and huge fuzzy pom pom. I’ve been cursing myself ever since it started looking tatty for not getting a few backups.

I searched everywhere, from cheap to high end, but I just couldn’t find another which quite measured up to it. They just weren’t the same. Then, as if by some winter miracle Irisie got in touch and there, sitting in their accessories section, was my favourite hat! It’s kind of funny how attached you can get to something that you only picked up on a whim, but I’ve definitely ordered myself a few backups now!
