It’s the start of October and here I am in a sheer shirt & no jacket, I have no idea what’s going on with the weather! It’s been the warmest Autumn since I can remember, which is crazy considering it felt like Winter was coming early when it started getting grey & miserable around August. I guess it’s making up for that now?

You may have seen from my Twitter ranting that I had a bit of a splurge at H&M and was less than impressed with their delivery service. Well, my parcel finally arrived & it turns out it was thankfully worth the wait & hassle. This chiffon shirt was one of the pieces I ordered & I couldn’t wait to play with layering it up for winter, the weather had other ideas though & I ended up wearing it alone, getting my layering fix with a peek of bra & multiple necklaces instead. I’ve been wearing these two from Bloody Mary Metal constantly since they arrived, they are beautiful quality, solid & with a nice weight to them & I’ve had so many compliments on them already. I tend to go through phases with jewellery & I’ve been on a gold kick for quite a long time now, so it’s nice to finally have some silver pieces that I love as much as the gold again. Expect to be seeing a lot of these!

I’d been looking for a pair of good chunky lace up boots since I finally threw out my beloved, but beyond rescue, Topshop pair last year. The comfort was a huge factor, my old ones had seen me through many gigs, festivals & long bar shifts without a hint of pain & none of the ones I’d found came close to that, until this pair from Ash at Daniel Footwear, who stock lots of great brands including their beautiful quality own line. They have the looks, the reasonable sized heel, a nice stompy thick rubber sole & they are comfy as hell too.

September has been a bit of a crazy month for events, as I’m sure you can tell from the influx of posts! I had quite a few in my hometown too, which is always nice & things kicked off at the start of the month with the Urban Outfitters store launch. It’s been a long time coming & I’m thrilled that we now finally have one in Leicester, as I’m a big fan of their in-house brands.

I was invited down to the press preview of the store by the lovely Katie & Kerry, where we were able to have a good look around at everything on offer with a handful of others whilst having a few drinks & eating some of the most delicious cakes that I’ve tasted in ages. Shopping in a relatively empty store in blissful peace & quiet was already a treat enough, but we were also treated to a piece of our choice to take home & a super generous goodie bag, I can’t wait to show you guys properly the beautiful lace kimono I chose. It’ll be in next weeks outfit post. I also got to catch up briefly with Claire & have a good old shop with Katy too, who I actually had no idea were both local-ish!

The store itself is gorgeous, I think they always do such a good job on their store layouts & designs, it’s clearly Urban Outfitters branded but each one is made really unique with lots of individual touches too. It’s such a nice change from the usual plain & quite corporate looking stores you usually find on the high street & gives it a nice relaxed feel making it great for having a casual browse around.

After the preview the real party started, the doors were opened & everyone was invited in to celebrate with drinks, music from Throwing Shade & Bradley Zero, the always popular photobooth, a pop up transfer tattoo parlour & a piñata, with the lucky winner taking home a £500 voucher! It was such good fun, and I really think more stores should do this type of thing, it was a brilliant way to get everyone involved, excited & talking about it for days after. Welcome to Leicester Urban Outfitters!

LFW SS15 : Catwalk Highlights

Felder Felder Spring Summer 2015 Collection at London Fashion Week by FAIIINT

Felder Felder

This is going to be a bit of a chunky post, I mentioned last week that Jean-Pierre Braganza‘s show was my favourite this season, but these are my other highlights from the shows I attended. There were so many photos I wanted to share & designers or pieces I wanted to talk about from LFW, but I didn’t want you guys to get fed up with coverage of every one individually as it would last for weeks, so I thought a highlights post would work best.

Spring/Summer shows are never my favourite, for obvious reasons, but I was glad to see Felder Felder finished their show with a little darkness, despite the very light, bohemian kind of start with reptile prints, metallic leathers and lots of white, blues & greens. I completely fell in love with the deep red floral dress, even though I’m not usually a fan of floral or prints & the gauzy layers of black chiffons & cottons were perfect inspiration for an all black summer.

I always enjoy seeing the work of freshly graduated designers & I had been looking forward to the Swedish School of Textiles show, expecting to see lots of bold, exciting designs & techniques on display. Felix Roll opened the show with his sculptural white dresses, taking inspiration from the human body in motion & creating fresh, awkwardly beautiful silhouettes. The minimalist finish & ghostly white palette let the shape alone do all the talking & it was definitely a memorable way to start things off.

I also loved Gabriela Vallejos Castro’s use of iridescent fabrics in a very grown up, relaxed kind of way. It was the perfect mixing of textures, layering & drapery all in soft grey & white hues, it was so easy & (I hate this word but…) wearable compared to the others on show that it really stood out & it almost tempted me away from black for a second! Of the few MA students, my favourite was Ina Hjelte’s exercise in alternative garment construction, ‘garments are minimized of all unnecessary cuts & seams and instead are formed by interweaving fabric through different cuts and layers’. I thought the concept, and the outcome all spliced neoprene, latex & organza was really interesting.

Other stand outs for me were Johanna Billeqvist and her soft draping, Majli af Ekenstam’s gorgeous digital prints & Johanna Karlsson’s fun take on traditional folk costumes dragged into the digital age – I really need that polar bear backpack!

Find out more about the school & see the full collections of each of the graduates here.

David Koma

David Koma was the last show of the season for me, as I was only able to go down for the long weekend thanks to work, but it was the perfect way to end things. I have long been a fan of his & those ultra body con, sculptural silhouettes that he has become so known for. I often think that male designers are far better at creating clothes that really play up, accentuate & flatter the female form, and he is a prime example of that, his clothes are always that perfect strong, elegant kind of sexy. The type of pieces you put on & feel instantly fierce and powerful in.

I loved the pops of citrus yellow & blues through the mostly black & white collection, it was fresh & graphic, the white dresses with just a simple stripe of yellow at the waistband being some of my favourites. He also managed to do sparkle in a way that made even me want to get in on it, the strict stripes of crystals were striking & the glittering outfits were a stunning finale to the show.
