Last Friday was Next‘s #ShoeboxJukebox party, I’d been excited about this since the first mention of it last month – I mean shoes & party, what’s not to love? It’s become a little bit of a tradition for me & Tara to arrange to meet earlier in the day when we have events, so we can have a bit of a girls day & a catch up, and make the most of both of us travelling down. We had an afternoon of sample sales, shopping & a far too brief coffee with the lovely Katy before heading down to the party. On the way we were both so hungry that we had to stop to get something warm & filling for dinner, so we popped into Byron Burger & had a quick mac’n’cheese & nachos to share before rushing over. Always late & usually the last to leave!

I say this every time, but Next really do the best events & this one was one of their best yet, though the Press Office Takeover is still up there as one of my favourites too! As soon as we walked in we immediately started cooing over all the pretty shoes, the pointed laced up pair were my favourites & we were also greeted with the main attraction, the Shoebox Jukebox! The idea was to Instagram your favourite pairs of shoes, which were switched up all throughout the night & the jukebox would play a song inspired by them, plus every 30 minutes a person at random would win the pair they Instagramed! The music was a perfect mix of new pop & 90s, which everyone seemed to enjoy & we all had a good dance whilst munching biscuits, mini burgers & cake pops and drinking a few too many cocktails.

There were so many things to get involved with other than the jukebox too, I love that they always have lots of fun things going on at their events. In one corner was a table packed with crafty bits to customise a pair of sneakers for yourself, there were dancers who put on a performance for us, the always popular manicure table, and there was also mine & Tara’s favourite – Shoe box Higher or Lower, such a simple game but so much fun! Seven random shoe boxes were placed on the table & you had to guess if the next box was a higher or lower size than the last, if you got all 7 right you won a pair of shoes! You were only supposed to have one go, so we spent a good portion of our night watching & cheerleading everyone else playing!

The only downside to events like this is that they go by far too quickly. We saw so many friends that we haven’t seen in ages, but there was just not enough time to have a good catch up with everyone. I always feel guilty & a bit rude about that, but time just flies & before you know it you’re running for your train! Did you see my story on Twitter about my eventful journey home? I’d stayed too long at the party & as I got off the tube I realised I had minutes to spare before my train, so I crouched down & started unzipping my boots so I could make a run for it. As I was doing this, a random guy appeared asking if I’m late for my train, as I’m obviously looking pretty flustered, and tells me he’ll give me a piggy back! To my drunk brain, this seemed like a great idea, so I jumped on his back & he ran with me all the way to my platform, whilst in the background a busker was playing Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ on an electric guitar! Luckily I got to the platform on time, only to find my train was delayed anyway, typical. Thanks mystery hero stranger! Big thanks to the awesome girls & guys at Next for having us & for putting on such a fun night too!

Jumpsuits are something I usually shy away from, mainly because I have a long torso in relation to the rest of my body & they just don’t seem to do anything for my proportions or they quite literally are not long enough in the body to fit comfortably! Either way I end up disappointed, so I just kind of ignore them to avoid this. When I saw this one way back at the F&F press day though, and in their gorgeous lookbook images I knew I needed to at least give it a try, it just looked so cool & effortless, like the perfect throw on, instant casual outfit.

I never really like to reference trends too much when I’m putting outfits together, but as soon as I put this jumpsuit on I felt like I needed to keep with it’s wonderful subtle 70s vibe – on went the thick leather belt, wooden platform wedges & little satchel. I resisted going the whole way with the oversized floppy hat though, too much! I think F&F have done such a great job with this, and the whole of their Modern Traveller & New Utility collections in perfectly hitting that line between being on trend & yet still totally classic.

The little satchel is from Marc B, I’ve been trying to carry less stuff around with me lately & so I’ve been really getting into smaller bags, this one is the perfect size for everyday use, it’s classic, fuss free & goes with everything. I love that it has a zipped main compartment too, unlike a lot of satchels, which is a must for clumsy girls like me! I’m also still completely obsessed with Sara Gunn‘s bone necklace, I’ve been wearing it so much lately, both alone & layered with other necklaces, so expect to see it around here a lot!

Slouch

FAIIINT Wishlist Isabel Benenato cropped leather jacket, Jill Urwin quartz pendant, Barbara I Gongini Draped Tee , 2nd Day ‘ Jolie’ Jeans, Ina Kent Convertible Leather Bag, Crockett & Jones Chelsea Boots, Niza Huang ‘Illusion’ Ring, Le Specs ‘Peach Pit’ Sunglasses

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I’m a jacket addict. You saw me going on in my last outfit post about how the Rick Owens leather jacket I brought recently was the perfect summer leather jacket & how much I love it, then I see this one from Isabel Benenato & I’m now obsessed all over again and trying to think of ways to afford & justify buying another! I have more jackets than I’d care to admit, and though I regularly throw clothes out I can never bear to part with even one jacket no matter how little I wear it. The last thing I need is another, but then just look at that beautiful curved front & distressed leather, it makes my heart all fluttery. It’s perfect.

I’ll always love pieces that can be worn multiple ways with clever design, I stumbled upon Ina Kent‘s pieces a few weeks ago & this ‘AD LIB4‘ bag is my favourite of her pieces. The soft squishy leather can be worn simply over the shoulder, as a crossbody with the longer strap, folded into a clutch & even gathered into a backpack! Often with things like this it’s original form is when it looks best & then the piece transforms into some mediocre variations of this, but the impressive thing is that this bag looks great in every single one of it’s transformations. Of course I love the black most, but I’m also strangely drawn to the metallic anthracite & mint version too!

I feel like I’m back in back in February with this outfit, just as we think it’s warming up it’s back to grey, windy miserable weather! I guess at least it’s a good excuse to (hopefully!) get a last little bit of wear out of chunky beanies & knits before it finally warms up, right?

These Supra‘s from 2010 are one of my favourite pair of sneakers, I spent months trying to track a pair down in my size here in the UK & just as I was about ready to give up and order a pair from the US & deal with the hefty customs I found them! I’ve always loved the Skytop shape, and you know I love interesting textures to keep all black interesting, so of course I just had to get my hands on this completely mono-black pair made from a rubberised suede material giving them this unique, satin-like finish. Like all my Skytops they’re comfy as hell & the red soles are a really nice touch too. If you want a pair yourself it seems these have been re-released with a few tiny variations, Revolve have got all sizes in!

This Rick Owens jacket was a bit of an impulse buy, I was looking for a lightweight leather jacket for the warmer weather & whilst browsing eBay I stumbled upon this beauty. Paper thin distressed leather, half lined in silk & a loose fit, it was exactly what I was looking for. The price seemed a little too good to be true at first, even if was slightly worn, but emailing the seller I found she had its receipt from 2004 & so even though it wasn’t exactly cheap, it was still too good of a price to pass up! Plus I had an eBay voucher waiting to be used, so it seemed like it was meant to be! I always check voucher sites like VoucherBin UK for eBay or PayPal vouchers before I pay for anything on eBay, as they’re often floating around if you check under the shopping categories & it’s always nice to feel like you’re saving even more, even if it’s only £10.

Yes, I also finally got myself a pair of burgundy jeans after going on about them & introducing a little colour in that wishlist a few months ago! I have to admit, I’ve been wearing them quite a bit more than I expected to, the deep maroon shade doesn’t feel so much like a colour, as crazy as that sounds & so I’ve found they fit into my wardrobe pretty effortlessly. I’ll definitely be investing in a little more in the future!

Highcross Spring Beauty Fix

Last weekend Highcross held their first Spring Beauty Fix event, being a bit of a beauty junky I headed over to check it out & make the most of the discounts and offers on throughout the centre.

One of my favourite things happening over the 2 days was the Beauty Amnesty, where shoppers were encouraged to bring in 5 items of makeup they no longer used or wanted & drop them in that big pink bin in exchange for a £10 gift card. I used to have a whole drawer full of makeup that had been used once or twice & then discarded, and though now I tend to have a monthly clear out & let friends and family have what they like, I still have a huge amount that’s unwanted just sitting there & I think almost every girl I know has this same makeup graveyard drawer somewhere! I thought this was such a brilliant idea, you get to de-clutter, the items all get recycled & you get £10 for it too – which if you’re anything like me probably went on more makeup! I really hope they’ll be doing this again. There was also a stylist & colour consultant on hand all day to advise how to find your ideal palette and apply this to both your wardrobe and make up, which proved very popular.

I then spent the next few hours going around to each of the stores & counters that were taking part. I chatted with the nail technicians at Nails Inc about my flimsy nails & checked out treatments and the new colours and finishes, Urban Decay gave me a intro on all their new launches, I got a 7 day sample of YSL‘s Le Teint Touche Éclat & the new Fusion Foundation to try out and I had a skincare update & mini facial from Clarins, plus of course took advantage of their offers too being one of my favourite skincare brands.

Afterwards I went over to Rituals who were offering skin care consultations & samples. I’ve never been into this store before, and I now honestly have no idea why not! I’m not much of a browser when shopping, I tend to know where I need to go & be pretty focused on those places, so I’ve always just walked past. As soon as you walk in it’s instantly relaxing, the store layout is beautiful with dark wood & draped fabric walls, and it smells like a spa. I also had no idea they sold makeup or things like teas, I sampled a little of the Jasmine Green Tea which was so light & fresh, I’ll definitely be going back for a box. The store assistants were lovely & super helpful talking me through their ranges, and was given a de-stress head, shoulder & hand massage using some of their signature products plus a little goodie bag of samples to try before heading home. I have to admit it must have worked as I pretty much curled up on the sofa & fell asleep as soon as I got in!
