Considering this hat has barely left my head since I got it, I’m surprised this is the first outfit post it’s appeared in. What could be better to brighten up a dull winters day than a beanie with cute little ears? It’s not often that I find something that combines my usual style & my love of cute things as well as this does, so of course it was an instant favourite. I love that it gives me a way of including this part of my personality in my outfits, subtly, without being over the top girly or cutesy.

I have a bit of a thing for nice fabrics & this Joseph dress is made from the most lovely thick, heavy wool jersey, I couldn’t stop touching it! The skirt hangs so beautifully because of the weight of the fabric & gives it this perfect softly structured silhouette, which I love. The nice thing about this fabric is that it’s really warm too, I didn’t feel like I needed any extra layers when I left the house in the morning, though by the time it got properly dark I was shivering at the bus stop & wishing I’d stuffed a spare sweater into my bag to throw on! I’m always being tricked by this bloody British weather!

One of the best things about having a blog is getting to read back through it all at the end of the year and reminisce. From a style point of view, I always like to review the outfits posted too, the ones I loved & those that didn’t work so well. When I did the same for 2012, I found it helped a lot in refining my style & figuring out what silhouettes and shapes suited me most. Of course, there were no outfits I hated on here, though there were a few I hated enough to never post. These are my 15 favourites from the last year, and comparing it to 2012’s favourites I feel you can definitely see the development.

2013 was the year I stepped out of my comfort zone more, tried things I’d always dismissed as ‘not very me’ & was surprised with the results. I now have a new found love of hats, and went from owning 1 beanie to 7 of all different kinds, the fedora I was originally scared of trying barely left my head. Prints also worked their way into my wardrobe, and I learned they can be a great accent to black when chosen wisely. I let my dorky side out a little too, pretending to be Jon Snow in my faux fur, channeling Ripley, giving in to galaxy print & prancing around with my unicorn clutch.

For 2014 I hope to do more of the same, further refining, more experimenting and generally just feeling even more comfortable & confident in my own skin and my choices of what I cover it with.

I’m back from my little holiday break, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas & an awesome New Years Eve! I always find it a little scary at the start of a new year, 2014, where the hell did the last year go?! To be honest though, I’m glad to see the back of it, 2013 was definitely a bit of an unlucky year for me & I’m hoping to make up for it throughout this one.

I usually get given money for Christmas, instead of presents, so I always look forward to the January sales & making the most of the discounts. The highstreet actually seems to have a lot of good stuff on sale this year, which is nice, as I normally find it a bit disappointing. I know all of these stores will have a further markdown in a few days though, as they always do, so now I’m trying to decide whether to buy now or wait – especially with the AllSaints wool jacket, I’ll kick myself if I buy it & it’s then discounted even more, but I’ll also do the same if I wait & it sells out!

I know the Topshop maxi is technically a maternity dress (and no I’m not trying to tell you anything!) but I figure with something as billowy as this a little extra fabric won’t be any issue. It’s already on it’s way to me along with the Just Female drape skirt, French Connection top & the AllSaints boots, so fingers crossed they all fit & that the dress doesn’t make me look pregnant! I am a little worried about the boots though, they are gorgeous but look very narrow fitting, I think I may cry if I can’t fit my huge feet into them!
